There never were laws preventing the installation of those components as well as others. The law applied to the manufacturing and retail distribution. Once in the hands of a private owner, the owner could modify his weapon with a wide choice of legal after-market products. The link below is just one of hundreds of sites that specialize in custom modifications.

I believe you were only allowed to install them on firearms of pre-ban vintage. AR15.com has had a lot of threads on that subject, and I never got a contrary impression.

It'd be great to see GW doing a little target practice down in Crawford with a full featured assault weapon.

That's what I keep hearing. I'm mainly moving to get away from all the freaks, but that's another benefit. I'll never afford a house here either. What are the CCW laws like there?

Well, I was born within the contiguious United States, but not in a state.

Hmmm, now that's a puzzle... You're 93 years old, and born in Arizona?

This is absolutely incorrect. The 1994 "assault weapon ban" most certainly did make it illegal to add certain combinations of features to a firearm you already owned. These restrictions are about to vaporize, though.

No, I am 41. There are two places within the US where this can happen - I will leave you wondering.

LOL.

Oops, meant to ping you to my previous post (#46). I can quote chapter and verse of the law if you'd like.

Aaaaah! That's cruel. Oh, wait: Washington DC. Not sure about the other, though, unless you mean Virginia, which is technically a "commonwealth" and not a "state".

Thank God!!! We need all the gun rights we can get in case we have to fight terrorists face to face.

I truly believe because of people like you, the Republicans made sure the ban would occur or they would have lost enough votes to lose the election.

Now, all the gun groups can support the President and the Republican Party. I'm going to call my reps and thank them Monday. I'm also supposed to help my Congressman but I've been ignoring the emails until now.

Let's hope this gives Bush an 80 Million gun owner Bump.

Ooh, now there's an interesting question: If a baby gets born in the UN building, what nationality is it?

I remember ordering (20)30 round clips and a 75 round drum for my AK's a week before the ban.

UPS "lost" the shipment and I never was able to get them.

Well, as I said, when push came to shove I would have voted Bush anyway given what is at stake this election, but yes, I think the steady murmur of discontent among gun owners, and the tremendous efforts coordinated through the Internet in making officials aware of the liabilities of this issue, did get some attention of the people looking to get votes this fall. Utlitmately, that's good. Officeholders should be scared of the electorate. If they aren't, we're not doing our jobs.

All these years I've owned an assault rifle and never managed to kill anything other than a target. However...show me a islamic extremist and I'll show you where the grey matter called a brain, was supposed to be from 300 yards.

Take note terrorists...thanks to the second amendment, we are the most armed citizen group in the world, and if you mess with just one of us, you mess with all of us!

Thanks for the, soon to be moot, clarification. The end of the AWB means instant amnesty for myself and other normally good citizens who became criminals because of a dumb law written by those whose ultimate goal was to make criminals out of all gun owners.

Finally, I will be able to go out and rob a bank and randomly shoot people

I am glad you waited until it was legal to buy the gun.

Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Yikes, what am I celebrating? I spent huge amounts of money on dozerns of pre-ban, hi-cap mags - 20, 30 & 40 rounders for my Class III AR-15s and 20 rounders for my AR-10 - and now they're worth diddly squat. Ditto a 29 round (.40cal) mag for my Glock 32/.357 SIG.

That said, I'm happy it's sunsetting, but there's another round of legislative lunacy coming after Nov 2, to replace it.

Stock up on the goodies, as they become available, folks.
