FROM DRUDGE: STATEMENT FROM REP JOHN P. MURTHA [D-PA]:
Drudge Report ^ | 9-17-04 | Matt Drudge

Posted on 09/17/2004 1:12:14 PM PDT by IDontLikeToPayTaxes

STATEMENT FROM REP JOHN P. MURTHA [D-PA]: I have learned through conversations with officials at the Pentagon that at the beginning of November, 2004, the Bush Administration plans to call up large numbers of the military guard and reserves, to include plans that they previously put off to call up the Individual Ready Reserve.

I have said publicly and privately that our forces are inadequate to support our current worldwide tempo of operations. On November 21, 2003, a bipartisan group of 135 members of the House of Representatives wrote to the President urging an increase in the active duty army troop levels and expressed concern that our Armed Forces are over-extended and that we are relying too heavily on the Guard and Reserve.

We didn't get a reply until February 2004, and now as the situation in Iraq is deteriorating, it seems that the Administration will resort to calling up additional guard and reservists, again with inadequate notice.

Well, Biden was on Imus complaining there aren't enough troops. Now they'll complain when he sends more.

The ANG is giving adequate notice. My son has been told he will go by Christmas. His unit got a 4 month notice (and were notified long before that, that they be prepared).

Deteriorating? Funny, hadn't noticed. We are killing baddies by the dozens. Is that "deterioriation?"

They are questioning the "timing". Personally, if it isn't going to hurt us in the field, then holding them back until after the election is okay by me.

My reasoning:

If calling up and deploying additional troops hurts W's election chances, then we have a problem. The war under W is hands-down better prosecuted than if J'effin gets into the Oval Office.

Actually folks, calling up a bunch more Reservists and Guardsmen wouldn't really surprise me.

I just think the Democrats will just try to make political hay with it.

So comrade Murtha, why don't you write a bill to increase funding for additional military billets and equipment?
You create the slots and our fine young people will volunteer to fill them.

You got it! Kerry figures that this is the only way he can get any votes out of the military.

Watch for his next speech to contain the promise that he will not call up additional troops.

The libs are getting desperate, yesterday my high school son came home and told me that his History teacher asked the class how they feel about getting drafted if Pres. Bush is reelected. My son told him that he would be proud to fight for his Country, and that he would not be running away to Canada.

His teacher also told him that he should always be getting his news from unbiased sources, such as the BBC and CNN. Kyle asked him if he included CBS in that bunch. (Ya gotta love a smart a** 14 year old)

I think the metrosexocrats are trying to paint the picture that are military is streched to thin and by using all our reservists will only lead to a potential draft. Edwards planted that seed.

Shortly, they will claim a mandatory draft is about to be instituted.
