Did Rather ever say Burkett was the source?

Bear with me. I recall the CBS memo saying they had been told the source was a retired gardsman, but after talking to Burkett they were no longer confident in the source.

Now parse this carefully. If CBS received the documents form an unimpeachable source -- Cleland -- and Cleland said he got hem from a guardsman, then that guardsman could be Burkett.

And after talking to Burkett, CBS says they were misled about the source. Clintonian parsing.

Cleland was the moron who tried to deliver some letter to Bush about something or another. He's definitely losing it. It would figure.

This fellow is right out of the whacky Jim McDermott mold.

So the question is whether Cleland will have to fall on his, ah, "grenade" to protect Kerry?

Remember, the chain of custody may have been laundered from the outset.

Yeah the documents were in the possesion of the Kerry campaign for 6 weeks. Someone traveled down to Abilene and faxed the documents to CBS from Kinkos just so Burkett could be the FALL GUY! Theory.

Ol' maxie should talk to G Gordon Liddy about how to avoid gang rape in prison.

That is to say Burkett was always the source but maybe they wanted to launder the intervening DNC connection.

Try Robin Rather!

If it's R. Rather, then Dan and CBS is embarrased. Fire the Rathers, and it's all over.

If it's Cleland, then Kerry, Dan, (C)BS, and the whole MSM are all sunk.

I'm hoping it's Cleland.

" Parallels Drawn Between CBS Memos, Texan's Postings"

By Michael Dobbs
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, September 18, 2004; Page A02

"In an Aug. 21 posting, Burkett referred to a conversation with former senator Max Cleland (D-Ga.) about the need to counteract Republican tactics:
"I asked if they wanted to counterattack or ride this to ground and outlast it, not spending any money. He said counterattack."
" So I gave them the information to do it with. "

"Burkett laid out a rationale for using what he termed "down and dirty" tactics against Bush."
" He said that he had passed his ideas to the Democratic National Committee but that the DNC seemed "afraid to do what I suggest."

From these excerpts, Cleland and the DNC were " given the information " by Burkett.
In what form they were given-whether verbal or written, is unclear.
Burkett in his internet postings seemes to indicate, he wanted to play " dirty " and use " dirty tricks."
The DNC seemed "afraid to do what he suggested "-indicating they knew Burkett was peddling forgeries.
If the DNC had no doubt the documents were legitimate, I can't imagine them " being afraid " to use them.
If the Kerry campaign and the DNC knew that CBS was using forgeries and did nothing to expose the fraud-aren't they part of the conspiracy ?
Until proven otherwise, as far as I am concerned, Kerry and McAuliffe are unindicted co conspirators .

I'm wondering how much money CBS promised to Burkett to keep his mouth shut? Rather met with him for a reason over the weekend. One was to get their stories straight. The other was to let Burkett know he will be well taken care of if he tows the party and company line.

If Dan did that, then all hell will break loose! It's going to be busted wide open soon with unrefutable evidence, though the spin will go on forever. There are many people involved in this but the person who actually forged the documents will be the one they will force to take the fall.

Cleland's wounds weren't received in combat. He got drunk and had an accident with a grenade.

Now, now. Max Cleland was grievously injured in Vietnam. This simple fact makes him immune to all criticism, either personal or professional, from now until the end of time.

You're right, but only because Max is a democrat. Bob Dole, also injured in war, gets no such pass. Remember the double standard...

The fact remains that CBS had the time, the money and the manpower to vet those documents. They weren't duped. They were caught doing the duping.

"Limbaugh openly speculated that Max Cleland is very involved in the whole thing."

Hasn't Cleland been MIA lately? For the longest time he was front and center with Kerry. Now, ever since the story about the forged documents came out, he's been noticeably absent.

"There are many people involved in this..."

I have to believe somebody's paying Burkett to fall on his sword for this thing. CBS, Kerry, DNC, someone.

Yep. I wonder if he and Robyn have ever been seen in the same room together.

I think so. I saw reports of Cleland out stumping for Kerry in Crawford, Texas not long ago. Perhaps Burkett put the arm on him down there, knowing Max is a wheel in the Dem party. It's very possible Max gave Burkett a hand in connecting with the right folks.

Looks like this whole thing has blown up on Cleland.

"Now, now. Max Cleland was grievously injured in Vietnam. This simple fact makes him immune to all criticism, either personal or professional, from now until the end of time."

That, plus the fact that he has played the victim card well after being whomped by the voters in '02. He certainly fits all the criteria needed by lefty whores like Rather to be seen as "unimpeachable."
