Well, I hate it when reportes do this to Bush and I don't like it now. These reporters are too cute by 2. Just ask some meaningful questions and leave the jokes to the pundits and commentators.

Who are these troops?

Beats me. According to Kerry, anyone in the military who disputes the party line gets fired or early retirement.

Kerry's "fantasy world" comment was dumb. The reporter knows it, just like we know it. The reporter is inviting Kerry to say more dumb stuff by inviting Kerry to say that other world leaders are also in a "fantasy world."

They should, at a minimum, reference his earlier statement then.

IMHO, a subtle sarcastic question...clever, designed to draw Kerry out. Consider this the antidote to the soundbite-seaking questions the MSM constantly throw at Bush.

I agree with you, I took the reporter's comments as a slam against Kerry, sarcasm if you will.

I wish they (the reporters) had to identify themselves like they used to...ya know. Mr President,Todd Takeurdream,
Socialist Sundown, do you think better communications with the UN would help cover up the oil for food program disaster and do you apologize for it?

Regardless of the reporters intent, this question/comment is totally inappropriate and non-professional

i dont understand? Isnt it ok to laugh at how off track kerrys talk about the presidents state of mind is? I would think the president would chuckle at this privately. Im ok with anything the reporter does to call attention to how silly kerry is.

I understand the intent, now after explaination. I disagree with the motivation though. It's too cute by 2.

A "meaningful question" is one that elicits a headline. That's why you saw at that Bush press conference a while back 15 different "questions" that could all be paraphrased "will you apologize?"

Anyway, it's Kerry that said Bush was living in a Fantasy World because he doesn't watch enough TV. That statement begs any number of follow up questions, such the one that was asked, or "What other deep truths is President Bush missing out on by not watching as much TV as you do?"

Kerry's silly enough. I want my newsmen to aks serious questions and report. This gotcha journalism isn't appropriate at press confeences. Leave it to the liberal talking head commentators.

I disagree. This was not a joking question. It reiterated Kerry's position and so is fair game. What is not fair is when reporters distort and obfuscate the meaning of Bush's comments, or misstate his remarks in later questions to him.

Unfortunately this is what reporters think and are trained to think. This is why the state of journalism is in the tank.

A meaningful question is one that elicits an answer, not a headline.

who in you campaign is on the ground in Iraq that is giving you up to the minute reports that would be better than the information that Iraq's on Prime Minister would have?

Fabulous question. I guess if your gonna mock kerry he could have done a better job by asking your question.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Exactly. It was an obnoxious way to phrase a legitimate question.

I take that question as a slam on Kerry's position! Points out who really doesn't have a clue as to the conditions over in Iraq---Kerry.

I would like to ask Kerry this question, and hope that some bright newsperson does ask it:

"During your 18 years in the Senate, can you tell me which legislation that you wrote; you are most proud to have seen became law?"

LOL! I don't think that in 18 years, Kerry wrote even ONE bill that became law! Does anyone know how many successful bills that he "Co-sponsered"?

A main issue in this campaign is Kerry's lack of consistency. Any question which demands elaboration of his nebulous, wishy washy positions is fair game.

I'll take you at your word, and I can see that. But you must admit that it totally depends on the a) the questioner and b) the tone of the question.

interesting strategy...........i think im a little sketchy on it though. I think the reporter has a legitimate question that just happens to be a little funny. Its not the reporters fault its funny.

I, too, took it as a bash on Kerry, not President.
