I think you should give the American public more credit. I was thinking the same thing to myself as I watched. I wondered what W really wanted to say about the war that is classified so he can't etc.
What happens when they don't use it for domestic energy?

Kerry talked louder and faster and that is being translated into "he won the debate".
I am biased, but I don't think Kerry's comments will stand the test of time while Pres. Bush's comments will.
Shall we start with Kerry's comments about abolishing our bunker buster nukes, the Global Test, $200 billion spent in Iraq, etc.?

I think most voters are going to vote on perception. Bush blew it big time tonight and I think it's going to be hard for him to overcome it. I mean I love Bush and will do everything within my power to help him win I just think the game may be over. Bush looked like a deer caught in the headlights tonight.
Well, here comes McCain - He actually thinks the President did well and Kerry didn't reconcile his contridictions on Iraq.
McCain is saying good things! Look for pigs flying in your neighborhood now!!!
GHWBush lost because he seemed disinterested in domestic affairs and because of the "Red my lips."statement on n new taxes.
This Bush ,"W", is totally engaged in fighting the war and is also connecting with the people.

Yes, I was disappointed that Bush was not more aggressive. I thought he could have hit Kerry hard on several points but didn't. My feeling is that Bush and company were just trying to "run out the clock". They feel they have this wrapped up as long as Bush doesn't get the PM of England wrong or something. Whether this is good strategy or not, time will tell. I do think you will see a different Bush in the next 2 debates. All this does is keep Kerry in the game a while longer. The polls may tighten somewhat, but I would not be surprised to see Bush's lead extend the next week.
I was here in 2000, and didn't think Bush did a good job in the 1st debate either. However, that was the debate that started the turning of the election to Bush, so who knows. I doubt in the end, many undecideds were influenced either way. Overall a draw. Of course we wanted a Bush knockout. The media will be orgasmic on how well Kerry did. Of course they were like that after the DNC, and we saw what the public thought.
Unfortunately that's why he comes across as underselling the war.
Bush lost this one, but I predict he takes him to the woodshed in the next two.
Remember everyone, one thing shows clear in the history of pres. elections. It takes something a little extraordinary to convince the American public to throw out an incumbent pres. let alone a war time pres. IMHO there is nothing extraordinary shown about JFK or about anything he might do different. Nothing changed tonight.

I love the President. Don't think I am against him. I think he did poorly tonight, but I have lots of faith that he will rebound!
He does so well when he is just talking to folks. He is quick with a smart comeback. He has great talent for saying just the right thing.
But, for some reason he got flustered and intimidated and ANGRY tonight. He can do a great job at a debate. He knows his stuff but did not throw it out. What a different guy than the guy we saw on Oreilly!
He needs to figure out how to feel comfortable in this setting and to keep his wits about him in this type of arena.
I am just getting caught up on the thread..I resented the question the moderator asked of President Bush regarding Kerry's character..he actually wanted the President to say something ugly about Kerry..I thougt the President handled that well.
I wish when Kerry said he would canc the bunker buster program that the PResident would have said something like " Well that would be right in keeping with your years in the SEnate, voting against all the weapon systems we are now using in the war on terror."
I agree with the speach teacher who commented that Kerry won on style but he didn't say anything new and there was no sucker punch. I thought it was bad form for Kerry to bring in Bush the I into the debate...it must have been hard for the President to let that barb and bait to go but he did...
I don't believe it for a moment. They had these people all lined up before the debate even started.
