"Now, in my capacity as vice president, I am the president of Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session. The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight," Cheney told Edwards during the debate.

On Feb. 1, 2001, the vice president thanked Edwards by name at a Senate prayer breakfast and sat beside him during the event.

On April 8, 2001, Cheney and Edwards shook hands when they met off-camera during a taping of NBC's "Meet the Press," moderator Tim Russert said Wednesday on "Today."

On Jan. 8, 2003, the two met when the first-term North Carolina senator accompanied Elizabeth Dole to her swearing-in by Cheney as a North Carolina senator, Edwards aides also said.

Interesting what the MSM focuses on. I wonder when they will go through Edward's statements with a fine-toothed comb?

I think Cheny should have said "In the Sentate." Regardless, it made the point clear enough.

Cheny was great!

It depends on the definition of the word "met".

The point of Cheney's remark remains true. On the Tuesdays that Cheney sat in as part of his role of Senate President, Edwards was NEVER there in his role as Senator from North Carolina! Couple that with a 30% attendance rate at committee meetings and you have an absentee politician by ANY standars!

Apparently, Edwards made quite an impression at their previous encounters. (sarcasm)

Funny that Edwards has no recollection.
If he knew the information was false, he would have said so.
But he knew the information was in context to Cheney never seeing him at work.
So, yes, Edwards is right to not refute the accusation - it is fact. Cheney never saw him at work.

Let's give him this one. Perhaps, Edwards was not one to be remembered.

Having said that, will the bias media bring up the fact that Kerry was in error when he was asked if he used the word lie in reference to President Bush and his policies? Doubtful!

" It depends on the definition of the word "met"."

It depends on what the meaning of "met" meant.

Is this another rope-a-dope? Cheney makes a deliberate mistake to ensure that the issue of Edwards' lousy attendance record gets more traction? Edwards is falling for it, if so, helping to prove that he and Cheney never met in the Senate!

Cheney probably didn’t even remember the prayer breakfast. The point he was making, and that I think most viewers caught, is that Edwards hasn’t been doing his job.

John Edwards has been derelict in his Senate duties but nevertheless collects his taxpayer funded paycheck.

Yes, Edwards had his chance to challenge the assertion and he did not.

Exactly. Even when he was there, he wasn't "there"

Every time this point is raised, it brings out the fact that Edwards was Senator-Gone.

Well then I guess we should just forget about the 60 Senate intelligence meetings the senator missed.

"Gone" Edwards... lol.

Cheney's misstatement here isn't so bad. It makes Edwards look like the eager beaver who reembers each brush with celebrity, while the Vice President, with more weighty things on his mind, can't recall insignificant social meetings. I sure can't remember the names of everyone whose hand I've shaken (although Cheney's staff should have vetted his speeches, like the introduction at the prayer breakfast, for any references to Edwards).

As you wrote, it's not like they met to discuss anything of substance any time before the Vice Presidential debate. It's a bit embarrassing for Edwards that he's got to remind Cheney of times when they shook hands, not when they argued over a bill or over some policy issue.

Cheney wiped the floor with Edwards. He portrayed Edwards as 51 going on 30, and this memory lapse of Cheney's has the benefit of adding more fuel to that fire.

If you saw the 2000 Vice Presidential debate, Cheney also was devastating to Lieberman. I'm proud to say I wasn't surprised by what I saw last night.

No kidding. I love the msm spin that this was a "tie". Cheney beat Edwrds to a pulp, period.

This one is easy. All Cheney has to say is "Hmm. Well he certainly didn't make much of an impression."
