A Call to Action to the Progressive Faith Community
Vote ALL Your Values ^ | 10/6/04

Posted on 10/06/2004 5:42:17 PM PDT by madprof98

Dear Friends,

At many points in our nation's history, from the struggle for the abolition of slavery, to civil rights, to the effort to fight poverty, the progressive faith community has come together as a movement to offer our nation a message of hope.

Our nation needs us again. We are sacrificing our sacred values to the narrow and ideological agenda of a few - values of truth at all times, justice for all people, and community among all nations and faiths. In the midst of the most important election in a generation, some vocal religious groups are trying to convince America that our faith calls us to vote only on a narrow set of issues and values. Our message to America is: Vote ALL Your Values!

Time is short, and we have begun a 40 day period of prayer, fasting and work. We ask all people of faith to join us in this plan of action:

A.) National Day of Action, October 16th - From Sacred Places to Civic Spaces. We ask our movement to come together in a National Day of Action on Saturday, October 16th. Through coordinated events across America and a Clergy and Lay persons' march in Philadelphia, we hope to make sure the country hears our message. We call upon people of faith to move from sacred places to civic spaces, organizing our faith communities in marches and vigils in front of public offices. If you can't organize a vigil, hold a 'hungering for justice' fast for the day and meet up with friends in a potluck dinner, to strategize your get out the vote campaign (see below). Start organizing your event now, and advertise your event on an electronic map of America at www.voteALLyourvalues.org.

B.) Vote ALL Your Values Campaign - We call for a mobilization of our community in a non-partisan voter mobilization effort called 'Vote ALL Your Values'. Together, we will call and visit millions of low income and minority voters before the election. Encouraging these citizens to have a voice in democracy could play a decisive role in the country's future, and research shows that contact by a 'trusted source', such as a member of a faith community, is most effective in persuading people to vote. You can be a part of it by organizing your own get out the vote team in your faith community, or even just by calling voters from your own home. We'll help you every step of the way.

If you are called to act, the next step is to go to www.voteALLyourvalues.org to join the effort. If you find the internet difficult to use, call us toll free at 1-866-456-VOTE. And don't forget to pray, or perhaps fast for a day to ask God's guidance in this momentous time. So much is at stake, our faith calls us to action.

Signed,

This is Progress?

In this article the author talks about a conference -sponsored by the "Center for American Progress" - held in Washington for the religious left at which staffers for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops "huddled with mainstream Jewish leaders and Muslim progressives" and "moderate" evangelicals conferred with officials from the National Council of Churches. One speaker says that 90% of attendees were pro-abortion rights and pro-gay rights. They even object to Jesus' words where He said, "No man cometh unto the Father but by Me" (Jn. 14:6).
This brings up some interesting questions: How can they call themselves "Christians" when they reject the words of Christ? Are they wiser and more knowledgable than their Creator? Jesus said, "A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher" (Lk. 6:40). They call themselves "Progressives". Have they progressed past the Head, the Teacher, the King of kings and Lord of lords, the Originator of christianity? Are they telling the Lord Jesus Christ what He can and cannot say? Was His death on the cross unnecessary? How strange!

Saul Alinsky - The Religious Left follows him "religiously". Their magazine: Sojourners

Reveille for Radicals - By Saul Alinsky
http://courses.cs.vt.edu/~cs3604/support/Assignments/alinsky.html

In the 60's, as a radical mentality herself at Wellesley, Hillary Clinton was so enamored of Saul Alinsky and his *methods* she wrote her senior thesis under his mentoring. She uses his "how to fool the useful idiots" tactics to this very day, and will use them in her quest for the presidency.

She's in for a surprise. We have her number.

As an aside ... at the "Sojourner Magazine" website linked above, a little window pops up asking the trick question, "Is Jesus a Republican or a DemocRAT?".

Wrong question.

The question they know better than to ask is, "Is Jesus a moral RELATIVIST?"

Exactly what is "Progressive Faith" anyway?

It's like a bible filled with blank pages. Lots of room to right your own 'truth'. I a more biblical frame of reference it's "white wahed tombs full of dead men's bones".

Whenever you see the words "Social Justice" just train yourself to insert the word Apostasy.

Likewise, when you see the word "progressive", insert the word "communist". It's a code word used by the left. That's why there is a particular auto insurance company that I will not do business with.

Here in the Illinois suburbs I am trying to understand some Christians at Baptist Churches who have chosen Obama over Keyes. Baptist Church pastors standing behind pro-abortion candidates???? I think it is like Robin Hood Religion to them. They will and are putting everything and anything aside, putting aside their Lord and His Word, their soul and vote goes to who ever will give them the most cash. They are being tested and sadly are making the wrong choice, denying their Lord for cash.

John Podesta, who was chief of staff for President Bill Clinton, is the leader of the Center for American Progress, which sponsored the event. He said exploring his Catholic faith has only made him more committed to liberal politics. Podesta's faith also has helped him identify the forces that he believes must be defeated.

"In the past 20 years, we've seen the emergence of religious leaders who tried to dictate legislation and public policy from their particular set of religious beliefs," he said. "The religious leaders who attracted the widest attention were often those with the narrowest minds. Rather than use their faith in God to bring Americans together, they chose to use it to drive us apart"

Podesta is a disgusting piece of trash.

Podesta and the Clinton crowd DID dictate legislation and public policy WITHOUT any religious beliefs unless you can count *crewing around with women or lying a "religious belief".

The NCC is a spinoff of the World Council of Churches, a communist front group. I'd be willing to bet dollars to dimes that you could trace every single one of the groups listed here back in some way to the Socialist International...

Check this out for some additional information about the NCC. If you're a member of any of the mainline Protestant denominations in the United States, you're FUNDING them, and THEY are funding SOCIALISTS.

I finally decided what I want to be when I grow up; a Gay, self-ordained high priestess of a transgendered, special-needs gang of marauding daredevils driving highly-modified supercharged wheelchairs with ape hangers and solid gold handicapped parking plaques front and rear.

The notice is good: it gives us a concise list of left-wing activist groups fronting behind the mask of religion.

These people are pitiful and foolish, but they don't give up, and just keep gnawing away like termites.

If your church is a member of the National Council of Churches, change that.

By the way, these are the same people who tell us not to mix religion and public policy.

Boy, it's been a while since I've even thought about these jokers. I had totally forgotten how lofty the NCC really is. Here are some of the extremely weighty issues they've tackled:

Boycott Taco Bell
(Perhaps I'm just a degenerate Southerner, but what, praytell, are "Immokalees?")

Boycott Mount Olive Pickles
"Whereas, all people have been created in the image of God, redeemed through Jesus Christ, and called to share in a ministry of justice that shapes our world according to God’s intention of shalom" I mean, we all know that the LORD wouldn't be able to judge ANYTHING without our help, right? Sheesh!

Public Schools = Godly Education
(Well, sorta... We've got to "bridge the achievement gap," which is entirely the fault of Whitey.)

Drug prices are evil
...therefore, we should beg the President to nationalize the pricing policies of ALL pharmaceutical products sold in the USA.

Israel Bad, Arabs good
...as if we didn't see this coming for a bazillion miles.

The U.S. deserved 9/11
(Okay, I'm exaggerating their words somewhat, but they definitely seem to be trying to make the "We had it coming" argument... Jerks.)

We Support The Intifada
(Or I could just call this "Israel Bad, Arabs Good" again. This was in 2000, when Arafart first started his little rebellion... er, I mean Israel unjustly attacked a truly peaceful people.)

Socialized Healthcare is of the LORD
I mean, why should we put ANY faith in Him, when we can just trust a bureaucrat, right?

Save the Trees
...Stop printing Bibles! (It's not like the NCC ever uses them, anyway...)

Landmines are evil
(Oh, I forgot. Only those evil YANKEE landmines are evil.)

I just can't help but roll my eyes through every single one of these atrocities. This group is definitely full of REAL spiritual GIANTS. Sheesh. Paging Bishop Spong... Your spaceship is here.

I'm all for packing up the NCC and shipping them to Canada. Anyone want to organize a moving party for them? ;)

And seriously, if you or anyone you know is a member of a church which supports this claptrap, shame on you. I'm an ex-Methodist because of pap like this. I'm much happier where I am now.

I repeat:
THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH SUPPORTS COMMUNISM.

Thank God this is all coming out...and before the election!!!!!!! A lot of these groups provide innocuous looking, 'bipartisan' voter information on tables outside of churches. I am on the look out.
