Injured, Angry, Determined, Swiftees Unite to Fight Kerry (Endgame, with checkmate imminent)
The Washington Times ^ | October 11, 2004 | Stephanie Mansfield

Posted on 10/10/2004 11:19:46 PM PDT by quidnunc

Midnight in South Vietnam, and the river is black. Past the rice paddies and shacks, small fires are burning by the shoreline as Lt. John H. Davis' 50-foot aluminum swift boat — PCF 19 — makes its routine patrol through the reeds.

In a split second, rocket fire shatters the silence, and through a plume of oily smoke, the boat sinks to the river's bottom.

"My whole crew lost their lives that night. I was the only one who survived," Lt. Davis says.

Lt. Davis, now 62, lost his left eye. The bones in both legs were shattered. But the scars of war are nothing compared to the demons that wake him from his sleep, leaving him drenched in sweat and trembling with fear.

"My latest nightmare was that I was pulling my crew out of the water. When it came to the last body, it was me."

Lt. Davis has come to Washington at his own expense, along with 89 other Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, to tape the eighth 60-second TV spot questioning Sen. John Kerry's fitness to be commander in chief.

They come from Oshkosh, Wis., and Orlando, Fla., San Francisco and Virginia Beach. One is on crutches. Others, former prisoners of war, walk stiffly, a result of being bound and tortured. Some wear their medals. Two are in cowboy boots.

Snow-haired Bud Day, a 79-year-old former POW, stands at attention. He is wearing a brown leather flight jacket befitting an Air Force major, complemented by the Medal of Honor around his neck. Others have donned "Swift Boat" baseball caps.

they come from Republican and Democrat, left and right

I will agree with that. But thirty-five years ago the Democratic party was full of Zell Millers, and the Republican party was full of Ronald Reagans.

Neither party had been taken over by the Clintons, Kerrys or Fondas yet.

Success in the war on terror can take a Century:

Defeat in the War on Terror can happen in a single day:

VOTE NOVEMBER 2 TO WIN THE WAR ON TERROR, NOT SURRENDER TO THE TERRORISTS!

Not only because they say Mr. Kerry has lied about his service and refuses to sign the form that releases his military records to the public, but because 30 years ago, the candidate threw away his medals and called his fellow servicemen murderers, rapists, baby killers and cowards.

"I think John Kerry was an opportunist. And he was very ineffectual. He did everything in his own best interest. He was always carrying a little notebook with him. I assume it was his diaries. He was very aloof and disdainful of people under him," he said.

Some people still ask me why I refer to Hanoi John as a despicable, self aggrandizing, lying, backstabbing, seditious traitor.

Senator Kerry recently wrote a letter to President Bush complaining, "You and your campaign have initiated a widespread attack on my service in Vietnam, my decision to speak out to end that war," and warning, "I will not sit back and allow my patriotism to be challenged."

That despicable, self aggrandizing, lying, backstabbing, seditious traitor did not just “speak out to end that war”. He jumped far over a well defined line and committed sedition and treason. I never had to forgive legitimate war protesters, not even the more radical ones, because what they were doing was protected constitutional activity. They were expressing their view.
I can not forgive or forget sedition and treason by a commissioned officer in the United States Navy.

The most charitable view I can come up with is that perhaps he thinks that one should never denigrate a fellow soldier EVER …

No, I believe McCain thinks that one should never denigrate a fellow Senator.

There was a time in our country when people actually got charged & punished for Treason, but the Kennedy money showed other wealthy people that they could do what they wanted & buy their way out!

The Kerry-letter-to-Bush quote is itself a flatout LIE. Bush/Cheney & the RNC - plus Bush & Cheney themselves - only praised Kerry's service. This too disqualifies the poseur, John Kerry.

The last phone call I got from a Republican fundraiser was stopped mid-spiel when I told him that I was sending my donations to the Swiftvets because their ads were so effective. He laughingly said OK, instead of continuing to press for a donation.

Thanks for posting the bio on Col "Bud" Day. I read the whole article from the Washington Times. Great piece.

The only thing they did get wrong, as you pointed out, was that Day was a Major when he was captured, but he was promoted to full bird Colonel (0-6) while he was in captivity.

His wife was able to let him know of his promotion by very clever means. The Vietcong torturers who held him would not let this news come to him openly. So, his wife sent him a care package. The Vietnamese raided it and ate many of the items, but left the packaging.

The packages his wife sent all had a reference to an eagle. Eagle milk, eagle toothpaste, eagle nail clippers, etc.

Day figured it out and laughed like hell in his cell.

It should not have to come to this. Three debates and a large number of press conferences and still not one question regarding Kerry's Senate record or his actions after Vietnam has been asked by the MSM.

It is disgraceful; how can anyone not believe the MSM is not circling the wagons for the Kerry campaign?

It is up to us, the people, to get the truth out. Pray for our Country, pray for our President, and pray unceasingly for our troops and allies.

I think it was more a case of Johnson and Nixon trying not to anger the anti-war crowd more than necessary – the Neville Chamberlain appeasement approach. Nixon was fearful that if Hanoi John was arrested, tried and convicted of sedition and treason his opponents would accuse him of stifling the 1st Amendment free speech and assembly clauses – regardless of “…the right of the people peaceably” to assemble…” and “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.
There were many powerful Senators and Representatives who opposed the war as well as much of our “esteemed” news media, and President Nixon was running scared.

Hanoi John’s election committee supports the MoveOn and DU, so they assume that the Swift Boat Vets are an arm of the RNC.
Democrats are so used to playing dirty politics and ignoring the law that they just assume everyone does it.

"In more than one firefight, Kerry actually pulled our boat out of it and ran out of the canal. I don't think John Kerry was a coward," says 57-year-old Steve Gardner, from Clover, S.C., who spent more than two months with Mr. Kerry on PCF 44 as a gunner's mate 3rd class.
"I think John Kerry was an opportunist. And he was very ineffectual. He did everything in his own best interest. He was always carrying a little notebook with him. I assume it was his diaries. He was very aloof and disdainful of people under him," he said.
"The Navy has Kerys discharge information under wraps."

Little Boy Blue Kerry resembles Al Gore, both had the time and felt leisurely enough to carry personal note pads with them. I'm surprised they didn't have hammocks rolled up in their duffle bags. After all they were merely(in their minds) on an extended outing becoming one with nature. Typical liberal mind set, labor is for the poor slobs beneath their Princely status.

"The MSM seem to want to tear these heroes to shreds"

It would be hard to shred the honor and credibility of "real war heroes" when people can see how mangled and shredded their bodies are after what they went through. It's not like they had time to sit around with a personal note pad contemplating the works of Plato like gutless tundra sKerry who we all know and despise.

Bump for the Swiftboat Vets.

Well, I am stuck on Fox News. However, I don't see Fox News putting the Swiftboat word out. If "I" am not hearing what the Swiftboat men have to say, then how can the general public? This worries me.
