How in the hell did this person get elected to be President.. What a dolt!.
Didn't he get elected by running against Gerald Ford?
"How in the hell did this person get elected to be President"
The more pressing question is - how in the hell does this idiot put his pants on without help?!
Carter was elected by the same people who elected Clinton and who would elect Kerry.
We are an approximately a 50:50 split country - made up of uninformed voters, of which only about 50% vote.
If Carter had his way we would be a totally socialist country and to be fair, every country would have nuclear weapons.
I hate to open my mouth, but I think it's because Americans are becoming socialists to a frightening degree. Agreed on the dolt comment, although it's a bit milder a term than might be used!
Don't blame me. I voted for Gerald Ford.
You beat me to that question. How did this person become the president?
Reflecting on Carter's remark a little more, had there not been an American Revolution, the world likely would not be graced with the only nation ever founded on the premise of individual freedom, nor the beautiful document that secures that precarious freedom, our Constitution and Bill of Rights.
But then I doubt that these things carry the meaning for Jimmy and the Democrats that they do for many of us.
Remember when Ford denied the Communist dominated areas of Europe like Poland during the debate in 1976...that's a big reason why we had Carter.
How in the hell did he even get elected Governor of Georgia, for God's sake? Jimmy Carter is qualified to be a High School Principal, maybe...then again, maybe not.
He paid everyone of in peanuts...
I am convinced that Jimmah was elected strictly because of his accent, and the CB craze that was going at the time. The sheeple somehow recognized him as a "10-4 good buddy" and thought it might be cool to have one as president.
Jimmy Carter was a brilliant politician who ran as a born again Christian, but the kind that did interviews in Playboy.
He ran as a trained Navy Nuclear Engineer, but the kind who suddenly discovered that his father was a farmer, so he didn't have to serve out his commitment.
He ran for Georgia Governor as a white bigot, but the kind who apologized to blacks after his successful campaign.
So, now you know. He was the prototype for William Jefferson Clinton.
He won because the media had continued to beat the Watergate drum, even after Richard Nixon left office. Gerald Ford wasn't much of a President and tended toward the Moderate to Liberal wing of the Republican Party. Repubs. were disgusted, and Ford left them cold. I suppose it's the way we thought about Bob Dole, and folks likely just didn't bother to vote.
Carter was popular with younger voters; college students and young adults who had become more political during the Vietnam War were a large part of the buzz for Carter.
I have to confess that when I was 16 years old, too young and too naive to vote, that I supported Carter over Ford in the 1976 Election.
It is both by luck of birth and the Grace of God that I can tell people that my first actual Presidential vote was for Ronald Reagan...whew !
If the Revolutionary War was unnecessary, we'd still be speaking the King's English.
