Expert: Laci Peterson's unborn son lived at least five days after her disappearance

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — A defense medical expert testified Thursday that Scott Peterson's unborn son lived at least five days after the Christmas Eve disappearance of his pregnant wife, Laci.

But the witness's conclusion — a finding that held the potential to exonerate the fertilizer salesman — was severely undercut when he admitted his assessment relied on personal notions of "realistic" behavior by women at baby showers.

The obstetrician, Dr. Charles March, told jurors at Peterson's capital trial that he decided Dec. 29, 2002, was the earliest possible date of death for the child in part because of the timing of a phone call Laci Peterson made to inform a close friend she was pregnant.

The 27-year-old called her childhood friend Renee Tomlinson on June 9, 2002, the day after Peterson had thrown a baby shower for Tomlinson.

So do you think Scott is innocent or guilty?

I saw a report that coroner could not determine the cause of death of Lori, or whether she was with child.
So sad.

Yes, Lori's death is very sad, the similarities between her husband and Scott are noteworthy.

If some people don't like Scott being discussed here (and Geragos might be one of them), seems the only reason they keep posting here is to start arguments.

Sure there are more important things. But most of us are capable of following several stories.

I'm sorry to see that all the political uproar has overshadowed the tragic story of Terri Schiavo. Her husband Michael sure is another Scott Peterson. And the sadistic stunts he has pulled on her and her family!

On cross-examination, Bertalotto acknowledged that the man...was only sporadically sober in late 2002.

Yes, I have one....

From today's Modesto Bee print edition...

QUOTES

"Is there anything particular about having DUI convictions that reduces the credibility of testimony?" — defense attorney Mark Geragos

"Not that I know of." — Bertalotto

"Last time I checked, both the president and the vice president of the United States had drunk driving convictions. So as far as we know, (prosecutors) just slimed him, basically?" — Geragos, about Clark

"It may affect his ability to recall." — Delucchi

"Except for the fact that he was sober." — Geragos

"That's for the jury to decide." — Delucchi

"There were a lot of suggestions, armchair investigators, psychic stuff. Frankly, there was a lot of wasted paper." — Bertalotto, on the majority of some 10,000 tips in the case

"What information is there to support the statement you just made?" — March, to prosecutor Dave Harris

"He asks the questions, you give the answers." — Delucchi, to March, drawing boisterous laughter from the audience

"We're still going to have this case completed next week, barring any unforeseen circumstances." — Delucchi, to jurors

SEEN AND HEARD

Several jurors grimaced when the judge told them they will be sequestered while deliberating, presumably in a hotel. "I think you'll enjoy it," said Delucchi, who often uses humor when addressing the jury. Some jurors shook their heads from side to side.

Scott Peterson's sister and sister-in-law spoke briefly during the noon recess, right after March said Conner lived longer than prosecutors think. "It's very much a two-edged sword," sister-in-law Janey Peterson said. "To hear … that our sister-in-law and nephew were killed is not fun information to hear, but at the same time it shows that Scott's innocent."

The defendant's sister Susan Caudillo appeared to choke up as she said: "We're just very sad, very sad. Laci possibly was — Laci was around for four days, and the police weren't looking for her. That makes us very angry."

Does anyone take Janey and Susan seriously other than some reporters and perhaps Scott groupies such as Justin the dumb?

Sweet! This tells us for sure that the Inmate will not be taking th stand.
I anticipate just some family and/or friends taking the stand.
That shouldn't take long as it doesn't seem that SP had any friends.
IMO, there isn't a high profile "expert" in the US that will now prostitute themselves for $ after yesterday's expert meltdown.
Baden, Lee, or Wecht would never be able to collect the big money they command for their opinions in another case if they try to back any of MG's bull$hit theories up.

Hi DD!

I don't see that the sequestration will be a problem for the jurors. I think they might have a verdict in a day or two.

Laci possibly was — Laci was around for four days,

Susan stops herself and corrects her statements just like her inmate brother when they need to rephrase to lie.

Hey, bon.

Do I remember right that Conner still had an umbilical cord? And a cut on his stomach?
