MSNBC just reported that with 97% in, Bush leads by 11,000 votes in Iowa. 2 counties with 15,000 votes are still to be counted. Both had stopped when their count machines broke down. Both machines fixed, but 1 county will not restart their count until the morning. Also reported that absentee ballots postmarked by midnight would still need to be counted(wonder how many DNC operatives are being let in the back door of post offices tonight?)
They are telling us that absentees will be done in 30 to 45 minutes.
2060 of 2079 precincts - 99 percent
George W. Bush Rep 736,874 - 50 percent
John F. Kerry Dem 722,845 - 49 percent
Bush is closing the gap in Wisconson.
We have approx 7000 absentees out. If these break 3-to-1 Dem, which is typical here, that would be about a 3500 vote gain for Kerry, not enough to put him over the top.
We usually do, but we have a huge amount, about 40% of the total, and we have two write-ins, me for auditor and a Dem for 5th district supervisor. So, they went ahead and did the precincts first, then the absentees.
Every time they get a write-in the machine stops and they have to record it. So, I and the other guy are helping to hold things up there. The absolute last thing I had in mind of course.
fun fun fun...

Way to go Lee County, you held your own. Those remaining precincts didn't cost W any votes. It looks "over" by the numbers at the yahoo website.
Only 22 precincts to go, Bush up by 13,600 votes. Just a few precincts in Greene, Guthrie, Montgomery, Ringgold and one precinct in both Sac and Plymouth counties. Go Hawkeyes!!
Yeah, the GOP usually loses big here, up to 4-to-1. We can't figure it out, because our local folks didn't do near as well.
My condolences. We lost the Ballantine/Easley governor race, plus all our state offices went Dem. Go figure!
Iowa update, only 16 more precincts and Bush gained another 1000 votes. He's up by 14,000 :-)
Somehow in NM Bush's 30,000 vote lead just disappeared!
Now their saying its only a 1000 vote lead in NM. How convenient! They call states for Kerry with less then 50% of the vote in and refuse to call a state for Bush with 98% of the vote in and now his lead has disappeared. I don't believe this!
It's time for Bill Richardson to get a little visit from John Ashcroft...Sic 'em, boy!!!
That would mean that Kerry got all the votes after they refused to call it for Bush! Their is definitly some manipulation going on here!. QWatch Bush's lead disappear in Ohio, too. This is exactly what they did in Fla in 2000!
Nevada has been given to Bush now. I wonder why they aren't calling it.
Montgomery county is Red Oak in western Iowa. That's GOP territory, and they only have 11,000 in population. Say 9,000 have voted there, even 2-to-1 in favor of Kerry is only net 3,000 gain plus 3-to-1 here is not enough to put him over.
And there's 6 precincts out in Green Co - Jefferson area...don't think that's too much of a 'Rat stronghold...
They've just about stolen NM. So I guess we might as well give up on that.
I see they had no trouble calling Wisconson for Kerry even though they refuse to give Nevada to Bush after hes already won it.
