Lessons of the Election Stare Dems in the Face

Posted on 11/03/2004 8:47:17 PM PST by Greg the Republican

The lesson of the election is that liberalism loses and conservatism wins. That's obvious. But the other question Democrats have been asking themselves is how do they win? They have to turn to moderates. The proof? Colorado.

In Colorado the Democrats won their ONLY competitive Senate race in the nation. Their other pickup was Obama in Illinos against Keyes which wasn't even a race. As a resident of Illinois I can tell you that the question wasn't whether or not Keyes could win but whether or not he could get 30%. He didn't.

But in Colorado the Democrats pulled off their only real victory for the night.

After spending hundreds of millions perhaps even reaching a BILLION dollars of spending, massive mobilization, and a lot of emotion (that was crushed with a sweet victory) all the Democrats have to show for it is their win in Colorado.

But who is Salazar? He's not exactly a Ted Kennedy type of Democrat. My political science teacher at my university, who walked into the classroom today with tears in her eyes and is originally from Colorado, told us that Salazar is more of a moderate. Sure, he's got some typical Dem positions but overall isn't a radical leftist.

This would mean that the only competitive race - the ONLY one - the Dems won with a moderate candidate.

This should be an obvious lesson for them: move to the center, abandon Michael Moore, and relate with the American people that live beyond San Francisco and Brooklyn and Hollywood.

Let's see if they take it.

I heard the Democrats had victories throughout the state also, state legislative level.

No, No, No, the Democrats need to push their radical ideas with more vigor. And they need to make up a better package of the "moral values thing." That's what they need to do. It's not too late to get started on it for 2006.

With Hillary waiting in the works in '08, you have to wonder if they'll be more centrist. Then again, Hillary, like that yutz husband of hers, will do and say anything to satisfy that hearty craving and lust for power so who knows?

This echoes the sentiments of Boston Herald columnist and Kerry supporter Mike Barnicle, who offered an assessment of the election on Don Imus' radio show that was as follows (I've quoted this as best as I remember it):

"The Democrats ought to take a good look at themselves and figure out where they want to go as a party. They've gotten to the point where they have a lot of supporters in New York and California and Washington D.C. who think it's great to crack jokes about people who live in trailer parks in the South and on farms on the Great Plains, and to make fun of people who dunk their heads in the river and say they've found Jesus -- but those people are the dominant political force in the United States. The Democrats will never be able to govern in this country if these people are all voting for Republicans while the Democrats have P. Diddy doing interviews on all the news programs on Election Night with the words 'Vote or Die' on his T-shirt."

In Colorado?

Cause from what I heard the Republicans took over Georgia's state legislature and I did not hear of significant gains for Democrats.

Salazar maybe a moderate but he campaigned like a conservative. During some of the deabtes he tried to outdo Coors at being a conservative. Will see if he walks the walk once he gets to the Senate.

The Dims are too inamored with their dream of world socialist utopia.

The only thing that will cure that is NOT reason; it is hot lead.

I was actually thinking of getting some Republicans together and creating a "Draft Michael Moore for President" website. Maybe if we disguised ourselves we could plant the seed for something like that. If anyone is interested let me know cause I think this could be a fun stunt.

You're absolutely right. They just couldn't get their message out AGAIN.

I mean, how could the Conservative press be so inside? Kerry should have listened to Edwards and sued everybody and their mother. That would send a message!

With George Soros buying votes, threats of riots if dems don't win. The Hollywood crowd telling america how to vote.........well, I don't think the dems have to win. I feel good the way things are. I never want to go through another election that has hundreds of lawyers ready to sue.
John Kerry lost because he thinks like the company he keeps. America is good, they see through men like Kerry and they fight back.

She had tears of Grief. She actually went tuesday up to wisconsin to volunteer for Kerry. She was devastated at Bush winning. I didn't help the situation when I came into the class with a big smile on my face and the first thing I did was shout out "55! We got 55!" :-)

Rush says Salazar is actually a conservative Democrat. I wouldn't be surprised if he fills a role similar to departing Zell Miller's.

This should be an obvious lesson for them: move to the center, ...

The Dems can't move to toward the center for the simple reason that they have no idea where that is.

Dems/liberals live in a bubble where everyone they know and associate with thinks, acts, and talks alike. They think they ARE the center, and to move away from that puts them in unfamiliar, and uncomfortable, territory.

The first thing they have to realize is that they don't represent the nation. The reason they were so emotional about losing is because they hated Bush so much that they thought everyone else did too. So when the results came back negative a paniced emotional reaction was only natural.

Anyway, anyone wanna work with me on Drafting Michael Moore for President? If we plant the seed for that among the party via internet rumors and things we could help push them to the left!

Yeah, I love spiting my teachers. I have Bush/Cheney bumper sticker on my backpack. I am also a member of our College Republicans chapter. Pissing liberals off at my University is a ton of fun cause they get so serious and angry about it.

A lot of people are intimidated by them but if you take a strong stand against them and mock them they capitulate like France.

I don't think it matters what's staring them in the face, they're so in thrall to their own leftism and to the tiny far-left pressure groups that control thier party that they just can't change.
