I guess we're agreeing, overall.
But for the Hilary part.
All she has to do is take every state Kerry did (not hard, since they have become reliably democratic), then flip any one state...and it's Madame President.
I have said this before, many times, on many threads where Hilary comes up: When she runs, the MAIN ISSUE THAT SHE AND HER OPS AND THE MSM WILL BEAT LIKE A DRUM...will be, Isn't it time we let a woman try?
And when our side says, We must discuss national security, activist judges, social security, etc.,...their side will say, They're just afraid of a strong woman in the Whitehouse. Let's show them, people!
And among the undereducated and lackluster, you will even hear this sentiment: Men sure have screwed things up, maybe it's time we let a woman try.
And if you count in the normal democratic constituencies (labor, big cities, libs, minorities, teachers), and factor in all the American women with grievances, and all the feminized men...she can win.
Scares me silly.
When lib friends say, I'm afraid of a woman for president, I always respond, I'd happily have a woman president...just not THAT woman!
Especially if we run Frist, who is colorless, and does not suggest strength of will, or even much leadership talent.
Quite simply, George Allen would kick two-horse-faced, tax-raisin', carpetbaggin' Mark Mark's arse.
I'M FOR ALLEN, COUNT ME IN ON HIS WAGON.
Who is the best candidate available from the pool of Republican Governors?
"George Allen on Gun Control Voted NO on banning lawsuits against gun manufacturers for gun violence. (Mar 2004)" I'd like to know why he voted on this like he did. All the others sounded fine. Attacking the Right and Freedom we have to own guns is eroding the foundation of our Freedom. Remember Stalin and Hitler took away guns. I'm not against Allen though I wonder what his thoughts were. The gun manufacturers didn't commit the crimes with their products.
Needed repeating.
"good conservative Governor" happens to be part of George Allen's resume.
Warren G. Harding, 1920. He was U.S. Senator from Ohio. His opponent for the presidency was James M. Cox, then governor of Ohio. Harding was very fortunate to campaigning in the aftermath of Woody Wilson's 2nd term screwups and won the presidency by campaign on a "back to normalcy" platform and people voted GOP to protest eight years of RAT plurality rule. Of course, in 2008, the Dem candidate would be able to use this label instead of Allen
(It should be noted that all the winning candidates BEFORE Harding were also sitting Governors rather Senators: Wilson, Taft, T.R. Roosevelt, McKinley, etc.)
Since neither logic nor reason seem to appeal to the Allen devotees, and they learned nothing from the 1996 and 1964 elections, the only solution will be to beat their boy in primary so we can keep the White House in GOP hands by running an Washington outsider. There's should be a pool of some really good candidates by 2008: Pawlenty, Blackwell, Owens, Ehrlich or Romney (IF they move rightward on the abortion issue), maybe even Rossi if we prove Gregorie stole the election in Washington state. They make sure Condi Rice and George Allen remain at their posts, doing the good work they were choosen to do.
I like this guy.
I have pushed for Senator Allen for several months now. His voting record speaks for itself and he is an honorable man.
He has my vote so far!
I had the honor of meeting with his Father back in 1985. I was a bellman at the Omni Shoreham Hotel and showed George Allen Sr. to his room. He chatted with me for over a half an hour, I was hanging on to every word he said. He left a lasting impression on me. I can only imagine being his Son. Sr. talked to me about being proud of who you are and being honest with yourself and your beliefs. His son has carried on his Fathers teachings. I'm 100% behind Allen in '08.
The Republicans have elected only 1 sitting Senator in the history of the Party: Warren G. Harding. All the rest (I'm betting) were either Governors or Generals or Vice Presidents - people with experience running large bureaucracies.
Conclusion from history: Run a Republican Senator in 2008 and lose.
George Allen voted no because the socialist senator from Kalifornia, Diane Feinstein attached a renewal of the so called "assault weapons" ban to the bill. So what do you want, another 10 year, or worse permanent ban on Home Defense Weapons.
See post #137
Well the Redskin's lost just before the election and the incumbent president (GWB) won, contrary to all of the prognosticating. I get so tired of hearing that Allen can't win because he's a Senator. Anything can happen, and it usually does.
"George Allen voted no because the socialist senator from Kalifornia, Diane Feinstein attached a renewal of the so called "assault weapons" ban to the bill. So what do you want, another 10 year, or worse permanent ban on Home Defense Weapons." Relax I'm on your side. Thanks for filling me in because I don't know a lot about George Allen yet. I'm going to start looking into him and I'm believing I will like what I see.
