CONTINUED ACTION NEEDED ON SPECTER
Inspite of Senator Specter's back-tracking of his inflammatory statement regarding President Bush's judicial nominees, momentum is growing to have him removed as chairman of the Judiciary Committee.
Specter's statement that it would be "unlikely" for judicial nominees who oppose a "woman's right to choose" to be confirmed set off a firestorm.
Specter's arrogant affront to the president the day after the election was unconscionable. "The president is well aware of what happened, when a bunch of his nominees were sent up, with the filibuster," Specter said.
President Bush has made it clear that he will nominate justices to the Supreme Court who will strictly interpret the Constitution according to its text and history and not legislate from the bench. Specter disagrees with this criteria.
ACTION

We must contact the conservative media in addition to contacting the politicians. They both feed off of the other.
Keep up the pressure...we will hit critical mass if we keep pushing.

Haven't finished the list yet--but answering machines are picking up for messages on all but Cornyn's (I've gone through DeWine). Great time to do it--no waiting.
Darn that Karl Rove.
Ummmm... what update? 10+ other posts on this
Bump for the FAX numbers that I'll use over the weekend. FAX's are much more effective than e-mails.
Thanks for the numbers. I haven't been able to contact Frist's office for two days (tried three times). That's good news, because it means others are getting through!
I called Senator Don Nickles and Senator Jim Inhofe at their DC offices today.
I tried calling Senator Frist 6 times throughout the morning and afternoon. Busy signal every time!
Finally, I resulted to sending Sen. Frist an e-mail.
You guys need to walk a little more softly. I agree that we have to do something about Specter, but dragging this out into the open via the media is NOT something that should be done.
Specter, as presumptive chairman of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee, suggested that he would block any Bush nominee to the Supreme Court who opposed abortion rights. Reiterating his position that a woman's right to choose is "inviolate," he said overturning Roe v. Wade today would be akin to trying to reverse Brown v. Board of Education, the court's 1954 landmark desegregation decision.
Barring unforeseen GOP objections, Specter, 74, should assume the committee chairmanship in January. He also sent an unsubtle message to the White House that he expects nominees for the federal bench to be of the highest caliber, and took a critical swipe at the stature of the current court. Please give me a break. What's the point of winning if we let leftists and RINO's set the agenda? Specter needs to be brought to heel. There are several options -- remove him as chairman, stack the committee with extra Republicans, or let Specter know that he is on an extremely tight leash. One stupid move..and he's gone. This is why I backed Pat Toomey.

Bump
Hate to break it to ya, but the Senators are on Recess until Tuesday the 16th I believe. Some staffers may or may not be there, but be prepared to start calling again on the 16th...
Excellent. That will carry extra weight. THIS IS OUR HOUR.
