Yes! Swith! Swith, I say! ;-)
There are two votes.
One is open and one is secret ballot.
The first is on the commitee and is open. The second is the confirming one in the Senate and is secret.
The votes on the committee and in the Senate are by Republicans only. The Democrats have no say in who we pick.
Please listen to this fact filled audio clip about specter the terrible:

I'm posting this on all the links about Specter it explains the power of a chairman and the ruthless man himself.
For heavens sake go to Concerned Women of America and listen to this clip about Specter and an explanation of the power that a chairman has over these nominations. If this man gets chairmanship for the next six years we will not get any decent judges. It's now or never. When you get there click on the new link about Judical roadblocks . Give it time to play. It's stunning.
For some reason it will not load on my real player, any suggestions?
I had to cick on play before it would start loading. Loading was not automatic.
Ann is wrong: Unlike Arlen, Donkeys are endowed.
cick = click . Getting late.
Yes, I tried that also, I'll keep trying.
Check with you tomorrow. Goodnight. MRN

For me...that is the signal from the White House to let him be.
I can only deduce that they've made some quid pro quo deals concerning Specter's election and W's nominees.
I'll now hold my fire. Once we merge with the enemy on the nominees I'll watch for Specter's activity. If at that point he gets in the way, the White House will turn on him and I'll get back to going after him.
For now it is clear, the White House will obliquely support him...therefore I cease fire.
NO! :))
Those who voted to uphold Roe v. Wade included Associate Justices John Paul Stevens, Sandra Day OConnor, David Souter, and Harry Blackmun. It was Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy who would cast the deciding vote in the case. Kennedy was initially going to vote to overturn Roe v. Wade but ultimately caved in to pressure from pro-abortion groups and voted to uphold it.
Kennedy should never have been a judge in the case. He was appointed to the Supreme Court only after the man nominated before him, Judge Douglas Ginsburg, was voted down by the Senate after admitting he had smoked marijuana in the past. And Ginsburg was only nominated because the man nominated before him was none other than Robert Bork, whose fate we already know. If not for Arlen Specter, it would have been Bork, not Kennedy, casting that deciding vote.
Thanks to Arlen Specter, one golden opportunity to overturn the atrocity that is Roe v. Wade has already been squandered. Can we really afford to put him in a position to do it again?
Remember: those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.
With 45 million babies dead and counting, perhaps it is time we informed Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of the folly of giving Specter the power to replace Tom Daschle as obstructionist-in-chief.
Isn't the easiest way to keep Specter from the chairmanship by removing from the Judiciary committee entirely?
She is a bit skinny but quite attractive. What I really like about her is her mind. She is just so sharp. I think she's from French stock. Explains her body build.
She's on this week's cover of Time magazine, so I'll bump this up.
Proof that he's gay, too.
