Lieberman as AG? (vanity)
me

Posted on 11/10/2004 4:47:50 AM PST by Hoodlum91

Interesting idea on WMAL in DC today. Proposing Lieberman as Ashcroft's replacement. THe argument was that Bush could "reach across party lines" by appointing a conservative democrat (who is a pretty decent guy, if you exclude the brain fart as Gore's running mate) AND that would open a Senate seat in a state with a Republican governor.

Thought FReepers would like to weigh in on this discussion. What do you think? Does anyone know if the governor in CT appoints someone to finish the term?

.....Bush could "reach across party lines".....

There is apparently some misunderstanding as to why the President should reach across party lines. The reason for extending his hand is to allow Rats to kiss his ring.

Mr. Lieberman is an observant Jew, and the kicking and screaming class support the enemies of the Jews and are united in their hatred of Israel.

I do not think Mr. Lieberman would do very much to bring the two sides together; however, I would support him on his merits and I think he would bring a lot to the discussion.

I think he's a very decent guy but also a social liberal. He was a "civil rights attorney." I suspect he would be less than vigorous in using the Patriot Act to prosecute the domestic war on terrorism.

Ive heard that he is one of the rumored choices. He's a strong supporter of the PAT ACT and a strong supporter of the WOT.

I agree. They're like any other special interest group as of now. Give 'em an inch, they'll take a mile.

One negative to Lieberman is that many would take offense to a Jewish AG enforcing tough laws against Muslims.

I am not against that particular idea, but it may not play well in the public.

From my understanding, he was a big supporter of the president on the war/anti terrorism.

In my opinion, he needs to pick an AG from a strong Bush supporter from a strong Bush state, so that that particular state doesn't have to suffer from losing a big player.

Reaching across party lines? Why? To the victor belong the spoils, I say. President Bush has an admirable record elevating capable minorities into important high-profile positions (Colin Powell, Condi, Elaine Chow, Rodney Paige, etc...). With his nomination of Miguel Estrada foiled, I'd bet he'll appoint someone of Hispanic background either into the Supreme Court or as AG.

McCain, on Imus, just mentioned Lieberman and Biden for AG. McCain loves everyone.

Ashcroft didn't play well in public either and we could pick up another Senate seat. I think Joe understands the WOT better than most Dems and some Republicans, plus being a Jew I think makes this war more personal.

i like this idea for a few reasons
1. Lieberman does not make me sick to my stomach - he is VERY hawkish with defense and did not demonize the pres every two seconds.
2. The APPEARANCE of Bush being generous with this offer will hopefully shut the press up
3. The most important reason - WE WILL GET ANOTHER SENATE SEAT DUE TO THE REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR OF CT.

This will pad our majority. In fact hopefully Bush will find some other useless posts to put a few other conservative Dems into where we have the Governorship
this way we get closer and closer to the magic 60 votes

You people have got to be kidding? why on earth would we want Bush to put a "moderate" liberal democrat into the top law enforcement job. The investigations into the Administration would be endless for the next four years. This would be a total disaster. Some of you people want to surrender now that we have won. Why don't we make Spector AG or McCain or Chaffe.
