HARARE- - Zimbabwe has become al-Qaedas newest hub amid reports that the embattled country has now become a sanctuary harboring militant Islamist groups and a territorial medium to smuggle people, arms, material and contraband, Zimdaily exclusively reveals today.
Zimbabwe, which borders South Africa to the south, Mozambique to the East and lies close to the neighboring territory of Angola to the west has been offering an attractive operational theater on account of its modern and largely western character.
An intelligence document leaked to Zimdaily and authorerd by Andrew Holt, an independent, US-based terrorism and security agent states that Zimbabwe had become a major hub for al-Qaeda through the relaxed entry requirements into South Africa from Zimbabwe. The existence of major road transportation networks connecting the two countries and the lack of concerted border controls, even at major crossings such as Beitbridge, was clearly a feature that attracted militant groups into the country, the top US security agent said.

Thats true nonetheless I think the world is tireing of the islamic crusade. This is more or less another one of their crusades against the world. This one will be short lived and will probaly cripple them for a very long time. The world cannot live without their oil. Look for the spoils to be divided between China and America when it is all said and done.
If nothing else its wishful thinking. : )
I hope you're right!
Perhaps Mugabe is so stupid as to shelter Al Q types but it seems a stretch. How long before these guests would make themselves known?
And once they popped onto the radar how long before the Bush Doctrine would go into effect?
Old Robert has a good thing going with his run of the mill kleptocracy. I doubt that he'd like a smart bomb dropped down into the courtyard of one of his palaces.
From the article:
"Many of these munitions are exceptionally cheap; an AK47, for instance, can be bought on the Mozambique border for as little as US$14, or simply exchanged for a bag of rice or sugar."
I wouldn't mind picking up a few of these AK's. At $14 US you can't go wrong!!
FYI:
- Zimbabwe has a miltary agreement with Iran.
- Zimbabwe also has a number uranium mines.
- Zimbabwe has close ties to Cuba, Libya, China and Iran.
Zimbabwe plays a larger role in international affairs than most people realize. Do a bit more of research and I think you'll be surprised at what you find.
What about the Pagad, a Muslim terror group operating in South Africa ?
This makes perfect sense. The Islamist Arab religio-racists of Al-Qaeda don't like whites--a view in harmony with that of Mugabe and his ruling cohort. Of course, as Arabs they don't traditionally like blacks either, but they're not hastening to point that out.
Somebody needs to let the CIA in on this!
Probably in it for the money - big effing surprise !
Cape Town - the most beautiful city in the world. Pagad was eliminated a few of years ago...their guys either killed or in jail now...just a bunch of local gangsters, mainly drugdealers, with very little community support.
"Wont the native population soon turn on the arabs? I am sure they will welcome the money at first but unless they keep paying them well I think the people of Zimbabwe will soon throw off the yoke."
Most of the local population is more worried where their next meal will come from. Abject poverty.
I hope that sensible people in South Africa prevail, and give Mbeki the boot !
Useless twit!

Beijing is understood to be supplying advanced aircraft under a separate deal.
Harare - President Robert Mugabe has ordered Z$10 billion worth of arms and anti-riot equipment from China, Zim Online has learnt. Well-placed sources said Mugabe negotiated the arms supply deal when he met a joint delegation of government and private business representatives from Beijing in Harare two weeks ago. The Chinese delegation returned home last week. Defence Minister Sydney Sekeramayi, who helped Mugabe negotiate the deal, last night confirmed that the government held defence and trade talks with the Chinese. But he would not be drawn to disclose the details of the negotiations.

Chinese riot gear heads to Harare
Gavin du Venage, Cape Town
November 17, 2004
THE first shipload of Chinese-made armoured personnel carriers have arrived in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare, with riot gear, mobile water cannons and other anti-riot equipment soon to follow.
China recently did a $US240million ($315million) arms deal with Zimbabwe, in defiance of international sanctions against the troubled southern African nation.
According to local media reports, trains carrying armoured troop carriers have been seen leaving the port of Beira, in neighbouring Mozambique, and heading west to Zimbabwe.
South Africa's Afrikaans-language Die Burger, a newspaper with close ties to the region's security establishment, said a senior delegation of Chinese officials visited Harare several weeks ago to sign a deal that would send additional military hardware and crowd control equipment to Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe has also ordered 12 fighter planes from China and thousands of AK47 rifles.

Zimbabwe shows itself as wonderland for China
( 2003-10-18 14:41) (Xinhua)
"We come here to invite more Chinese friends to Zimbabwe, where ancient Chinese set foot several thousands of years ago," Francis Nhema, Zimbabwe's minister of environment and tourism told Xinhua Friday.
Called "Africa's Paradise", Zimbabwe is for the first time to cast its eyes on the Chinese market, said Nhema, head of Zimbabwe' s tourism delegation to China.
This tourism delegation, the biggest in Zimbabwe's history, is composed of both governmental officials and tourism marketing experts.
Besides attending the assembly of the International Tourism Organization in Beijing, their chief task is to introduce and popularize Zimbabwe's amazing natural beauty to the Chinese.
Nhema debuted his China tour by participating in an international tourism culture exhibition that opened in Beijing Friday morning.
"This morning, so many enthusiastic Chinese visitors with great curiosity surrounded our exhibition stand that our brochures soon ran out," the minister said with great pleasure.
He said with confidence that Zimbabwe will be welcomed by Chinese tourists "thanks to its rich historic relics, including Victoria Falls, which is well-known as one of the world's seven natural wonders."
Zimbabwe is also the home to five wild African animals, the elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard, and zebra, said Nhema, adding that Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa are together building the world's largest park for wild animals where the three countries' borders meet.
According to the minister, currently only less than 10,000 Chinese tourists have been to Zimbabwe, which was a very low figure.
The issue on this story, if true...is money. Zimbabwe has almost no revenue coming into the country. Anyone who walks up to the leadership, and offers $50 million in cash...gets a free ride. Al Qaeda has a bottomless bucket of funding from Saudi Arabia...which I keep harping on. Money runs all things in the world. If we halt oil purchases from Saudi Arabia, then Al Qaeda will have shrink in size.
