President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.

Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.

I can't get THIS VIDEO to play either.

It says it's opening, and then says "CLOSED."

Anybody else having that happen?

ME TOO!!!!

But I have to wonder - did the President stop in his tracks because he discovered that his usual detail wasn't around him and look to see where they were?

That tells me that the SS has done their job - getting the President so used to having his SS detail around him, that he stops when they aren't. Good move.

Freeing his lead agent from the Chilean "scrum", even better move!!

The difference here is that the President made no apologies for it; he didn't shy from it.

And Jim Angle just told the "rest of the story" on FNC at about 4:35 EDT. He said that the Chilean President wanted to hold a dinner tonight to honor the President with 200 guests and the SS said that all 200 guests had to go through metal detectors, so the Chilean President is having dinner with just the President and Laura. Jim Angle mentioned something about "a lot of leftovers" because the 200 invited guests have been uninvited.

I'm sure the Chilean press and other MSM will make much ado over the SS wanting to put 200 guests through metal detectors but hey, we are in WW4 - and I'm glad they are insisting on this kind of protection for our President and First Lady. Tough if they don't like it!

Cartagena is one of the safest cities in South America. A pretty resort town of about a million people. Clinto came there in 2000 so I went down to see him. He had so many women around him could get no closer than 100 feet. Married women were throwing panties at him.

Cartagena is like a no mans land where both guerrilla's, government and civilians mingle. Lots of Americans live there. If I remember correctly the Colombian government brought in several thousand extra troops to keep order. mostly to protect Clinton from the admiring crowds.

Another alternative to the mystery of who's who. Not that it's critical information, but since I've been proposing something that may not be accurate, I wanted to readdress it.

Dark lanyard guy doesn't have a moustache.

President's lead agent has a moustache. (And a dark lanyard more visible in another picture.)

Another possible alternative, several scuffles were going on, and the top picture doesn't include whatever scuffle involved the lead agent. My current scenario...moustache guy and yellow lanyard guy are both USSS. Clean shaven dark lanyard guy...Chilean? or other.

Japanese TV video (ANN Network, Tokyo) from a few hours ago, including slow motion of Presidente Bush springing into action, also zoom in/slow motion of the Bush pissed off reaction right afterwards, not to mention quick view with clear sound of a Chilean-USSS scuffle as filmed FROM OUTSIDE THE BUILDING, which it seems most news networks were not showing at this time (300k Windows Media):

If you watch the video .. you can see that there was quite a clammer of yelling and activity. The noise and probably peripheral vision of a lot of activity right outside the door caught his attention, and he reacted instantly. The confrontation was not that far away from him.

"At what point do the SS agents have to conclude that the Pesident is in danger because they are prevented from protecting him. They may have been seconds away from drawing their firearms."

I was thinking the exact same thing. They may have been moments away from drawing arms and 'forcing' the issue. But of course with the President standing nearby I'm sure they realized a shoot out was not in anybody's best interest at that time.
