President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.

Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.

The President needs to start traveling, at least in foreign countries (including visiting the UN), with a Marine Expeditionary Unit along for the trip (probably does that already), but also a fully loaded out platoon in close attendance.

Screw the sensitivities of the so called "allies." FDR didn't travel anywhere, even in the US, without a rather large contingent of regular army during WW2.

Bill Clinton was the same way. He used to bring as many secret service agents and a military group that was massive whenever he traveled outside of the U.S. His trip to India, he wound up bring over a thousand people with him.

Bush would be wise to take the approach of having as big a protection group as possible.

God IS good, and SO faithful!

Last year was so difficult, but I have never been prouder of anyone in my life than I was of my 'little' boy, and his brave service for our freedom and safety!

What I like about this is how he didn't give one thought about what people would think. He saw something wrong happening and set out to right it. I LOVE it!

It's like Brett Favre throwing those cutback blocks on defensive linemen and linebackers on end-arounds. ;>) Some folks are just natural leaders.

they have no respect for the flag or what it represents.

Except, of course, that Free Speech part. They really like that! It seems they forget that without that FLAG, there isn't any Free Speech!

Did you know that Free Speech is not a right in Canada? No wonder the DUs aren't running for our northern border.... like they promised...

He cares about PEOPLE. I've posted here before on other threads that G.W. is the type of man that would be comfortable sitting in a diner conversing with people there. He is the type of man that I could sit on a park bench with and talk about anything to. I can't think of a Demorat - with the possible exception of Zell Miller that I could do that with.

You and I agree on that. But last week I was letting one of the lefties at work blather on...as he sees the world Bush (and to a lesser extent Kerry) are elitests. They just can't empathize with the common man.

He went back to Truman and talked about how everyone even Bush 41 had empathy for the common man (I thought I'd laugh when he said JFK was more 'down to earth' than Bush 43). Then he talked about how Canada was appealing.

LOL! I am traveling to Alabama also. I am relieved that the Pres in not going to be there. If he were going, my paranoid meter would be off the scale. I spend too much time on the Threat Matrix thread to be comfortable traveling on a holiday weekend anyway , but having the POTUS being nearby would be off much. (Unless I would have a chance to see him myself, of course!)

"I will relay your thanks to Tom. He will smile and look humble and just say he was doing his job. :-)"

Sounds like a great guy. I have a special fondness for the military - -I had the good fortune (though I probably didn't realize it so much at the time), to meet many wonderfulemilitary guys, since my dad was a lifer in the Air Force.
He passed away 2 years ago next Feb, but was so very proud of his service (as were we). He had a ballcap that says, "Veteran WWII, Korean War, Vietnam". I'm so happy that my sister got that to give to my nephew when he's a bit older. We'll make sure he understands just how special that cap and the military is.

I'm glad Tom is home safe and think it's super he got to shake hands w W.

It's not a lot different from when the woman in Florida was about to faint, and no one noticed except HIM.......so he turned around and yelled for someone to get her some water.

He just does what needs to be done without a single thought that he is the most powerful man on earth.

He is a true servant-leader. Amazing!

Wow. Simply, Wow.

This is giving me flashbacks of last Thanksgiving. This is why I love this man, he is a Good, Kind, Thoughtful and Brave Man and it shines out from within.

You mean they are for the 1st Amendment when it comes to pornography, cop killing lyrics, flag-burning and sedition, but when it comes to expressing one's religion in the public square or funding a campaign ad, they are dead set against. I despise them. They had better hope they never have to face us mano a mano for the future of this country.

I can just picture the faces of the Chileans guards as Bush's hand wraps around one of their guards neck and Bush tells him to back off or this gringo is going to stomp on your ass.
