Saudi bride roughs up guest for photographing her with camera phone
Sun Nov 21, 6:11 AM ET
RIYADH (AFP) - An enraged Saudi bride badly beat up a female wedding guest who had photographed her with a camera-equipped mobile phone, a newspaper reported.
After spotting the woman taking the picture in the all-female section of the party in the western city of Taif, the bride "beat her severely, destroyed her mobile phone and pulled her by her hair in front of all the guests," the Al-Jazirah daily said.
The bride then ripped off the woman's veil and announced through a microphone the woman's motives, before receiving a round of applause "for being vigilant". She then tidied up her appearance and proceeded with the celebration.
Camera-equipped mobile phones are ostensibly banned in the conservative kingdom, where men and women celebrate weddings separately, leaving women at liberty to discard the all-covering black cloaks and veil that are obligatory in the presence of men.
Earlier this month, four ministries appealed to King Fahd to lift the ban, arguing that such technology had become a "fait accompli like television and the internet."
Now, that's funny rat there... don't care who ya are.
this is almost as bad as Star Parker screaming at Joy Bahar for her camera! LOL
At least some are in the 21st Century. I am reminded of a few archaic practices we still have. How many men still carry their bride across the threshold - in remembrance of when brides were stolen, not wooed? How about the pagan fertility rite of throwing rice at the wedding?
These arent as noticeable as wearing a burka but they are antiquated.
Family and friends applaud after the beating for the "offense". What ever happened to asking them to stop or leave? Gee, these people are so wonderful and enlightened.
Wow, this camera phone makes your ass look big.>>>>>>>>>
I'm dying I can't breathe from laughing!!!!!!!!!
There is something vehemently wrong with these people.
Because the woman objected to being photographed surreptitiously? Im not a Muslim female, but if anyone had tried to take pictures without my knowledge at my bachelor party, I might have done the same thing.>>>>>>>>>>
You would have "beaten her up?" There is something wrong with you too.
Some adherents to fundamentalist Islam believe that photographing a person violates an edict of the Koran. It is the same reason that mosques use geometric decorations in lieu of figures of people or animals. I think it is because they believe that to make an image of a person or creature is to set oneself up as rival "creator" to Allah. So the bride may have had religious as well as personal objections to being photographed.
Go to this thread and look at the photo in reply #3. Do you see what I see?

QUIT, QUIT IT, MY WIFE IS WONDERING WHAT I'M CRACKING UP ABOUT.
Yeah - all the phones are on "vibrate"
WHACK! Can you hear me now? Good, good.
~snicker~
Hehehe... this whole thing brought to mind a really kinky bachelorette party. I'm sure this bride would appreciate that!
Was Star looking for the camera with the wide-angle lens on it?
Maybe that's why she got insulted hehe!
I've met people....older people...who think that computers and especially the internet is bad and a tool of the devil.
Stupid, I know.
"Christianity was just as insane - before enlightenment."
That is an incredibly silly thing to say. Jesus said: Love one another, Mohamed said: Kill the infidels.
Wow! She really gets around!
