OTTAWA (AFP) - Hopes for early mass protests in the streets of Ottawa on the eve of Tuesday's visit by US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) fizzled out, as journalists outnumbered demonstrators. A loose coalition of groups opposed to just about everything Bush supports had promised two demonstrations hours before Bush was due to jet into Ottawa Tuesday aboard Air Force One. The first demonstration -- of Palestinians and sympathisers of the Palestinian cause opposed to Washington's support of Israel -- attracted less than 40 demonstrators. According to a quick head count by journalists, the protest attracted 39 demonstrators, 42 journalists and television crew members and three police officers. A second, ostensibly larger, demonstration scheduled for the midst of the evening rush hour -- was called by a group calling itself Students Against Bush. Nobody turned up. Further protests however were expected on Tuesday. Efforts to contact protest organizers were unsuccessful, with the phone numbers listed by organizers remaining unanswered.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Rich. :-)
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
There are supposed to be 15,000 for the main protests. Let's wait till then and see.
Those darn anarchists. Its just so hard to get organized!
Sweet.
Oh this is beautiful. My faith in my fellow Canadians may yet be restored.
How many showed up for "Frenchspeakers Against George"??
Yes I made French speakers one word the joke doesnt work the other way.
You know the old joke...anytime someone tries to call a meeting of anarchists to order, all the rest scream "FASCIST!" and leave. :)
Don't hold your breath. I guess any Palestinians in Canada have probably already left - they probably don't do well in the winter. It's funny watching all the recent immigrants bundle up - they're already freezing their butts off and it ain't even cold yet.
Agreed, there are at least four bus loads going out of Toronto so bigger crowds/mobs can be expected. The problem I have is the Canadian media's love affair with protestors.
I don't usually credit the US MSM too much but at least they don't get sucked into every little protest. Canadian and principally Toronto media will gather the cameras and give headline coverage any time two lefties get together to whine. Heck even one person protests warrant five minutes of 6 o'clock coverage.
