Yes I agree those old Tauruses were junk. At one time I've had a 89 Taurus and an 89 Mercury Sable. I didn't buy them because I liked them, I bought them because it was all I could afford(very cheap). Anyway they both died somwhere in the 90-100 thousand mile range and it was way cheaper to buy another car then to fix them. I will say they both rode very comfortably and had a nice feel(when they were running).
On the plus side I've heard Ford quality has drastically improved in the late 90's on into today. No major problems with mine...yet.
Please remember that Renault bought Nissan a few years ago.
I don't what that other poster was blowing about with four Hyundai people he knows claiming they won't get another one. I can't tear my Elantra up!
Has their quality gone out? Haven't heard. My mom has a 99 Maxima, and the thing will likely be the last car she owns. She's only 65, but she also only drives about 5000 miles a year and has it serviced all the time. Of course, giving the French any cash would be unacceptable.
My 03 Mustang Cobra is the best car I have ever owned. It has 390hp right off the showroom floor and with less than $2k in bolt-ons it now has 500hp. Now if Toyota would bring back the Supra TT I might look at it.
MPG is not the issue with Kia/Hyundai.
It is price per unit + standard warranty.
It's a lot of car for a little money right smack in the middle of what normal people can afford. (And they're figuring out that these aren't "new brands" but are brands that have been in Korea for decades.)
The new Hyundai Ive seen look pretty darn nice. The panel gaps are tighter than anything youll find at a GM dealership.
"Producing junk doesn't help either..."
AMEN!AMEN!AMEN! I tried "buying AMERICAN" and boy was I screwed. My wife needed a car quick after an accident destroyed our faithful Nissan Sentra. So I said we're buying American. I bought her a fully loaded Chevy Malibu with leather. What a piece of crap. This car went to the shop 6 times for brake problems. They would not Lemon Law it and were not honest in handling the extended warranty. I will not buy any Chevy nor let my kids buy one if I have a say so.
