'Ocean's Twelve' Stars on 'Moral Values'

'Ocean's Twelve' Stars on 'Moral Values' Clooney, Damon, Pitt, Zeta-Jones and More on Hollywood vs. the Heartland Dec. 2, 2004 - In the new film "Ocean's Twelve," a variety of Hollywood A-listers play professionals, each with a special skill, who band together to pull off a gambit none of them could accomplish individually. The film might be seen as a metaphor for real life.

When movie stars come together, they're often recognized as a force to be reckoned with -- and not just at the box office. They're seen collectively as "the Hollywood liberal elite."

Six of "Ocean's" stars -- George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Andy Garcia and Don Cheadle -- recently sat down with ABC News' Diane Sawyer for an exclusive interview about family, fame and public perception.

After one of the most heated presidential campaigns in recent memory, Saywer asked them to reflect on the outcome, the importance of moral values and the idea they are on the opposite side of that dividing line.

"We are, in fact, at times defensive of the idea that there's this disconnect between us and the rest of the country," Clooney said.

"We are actually, all of us, conservative, not liberal, whatever … We are reflections of that society. And we're a product of it."

Movie stars who grew up in Middle American families are troubled by the idea that the country does not think they belong to them.

Pitt grew up in Missouri with an upbringing he describes as "Baptist and then a more nondenominational charismatic kind of movement."

Your wrong on Andy Garcia. I don't know what party he is affiliated with but he was one of two celebs that came out to help Elian Gonzalez stay in this country. He is very pro-American as it must have been apparerent in the interview and was cut out or ignored completely.

George Clooney is a jerk and has a house in Lake Como, Italy.

Pitt is actually telling the truth.

Is he today considered to be a man of virtue, or vice?

The day I take tips on moral values from these clowns is the day I shave my head with a cheese grater.

Well Said!

They still don't get it. How can people who make millions of dollars pretending to be someone else for a living, honestly think they have a clue about the real life of an average working/middle class family? They are just surprised that the little people didn't listen to them.

They think they are more tolerant??? They weren't very tolerant of any conservative opinions.

Give me a break: if twelve Hollywood big shots are in one group that group hasnt got a lot of moral values. Clooney is the one who compared George Bush to the Sopranos.Moron alert. Zeta Jones married Mike Douglas, Liberal to the core , Need I say more, Now they want to claim to be conservative. Yeah.

Clooney is an idiot,

I find Clooney to be VERY offensive as he took to supporting a bizarre Dem ABB in the election, and now won't confess to it and also to what he and the man stood for.

If a guy will publicly, very publicly, shill for a loser of a candidate, he can't turn around and then say that Mr. UN was simultaenously Mr. duck-hunter or Mr. family values. It wasn't both, then. And you can't make people forget what they saw just a few short weeks and months ago.

I hope your right. Actually I love Andy Garcia, and believe me I am not happy about his association with Clooney et al. I thought his house was in Spain not Italy, but, maybe you are right. I know he had to apologize to the town because of what happened during filming of his movie.

They're actors. Does it really matter what they believe or don't believe?

It does to anyone, conservative or liberal. You think the libs are eager to see the next Mel Gibson film? Or take a hypothetical. You discover that your favorite actor actually supported, in retrospect, the slaughter of all those innocent priests and nuns in the Spanish war by the Commies. And he has a film in the theaters. It'll matter. It should. It always has, and always will.

Defensive of? You can defend that idea all you want, George.
