My wife was telling me that she saw (I'm assuming on Fox somewhere) that there is a movement afoot to prevent homeschoolers from teaching religion and only teaching the texts and curiculum endorsed by the public school district.

Even as it stands, one is forced to teach evolution as the "truth" in most states, as your homeschooled children will be tested on it.

Soon, it will be illegal to mention God in your own home, as the ACLU will consider that trampling on your toddlers rights.

I'm beginning to feel like I'm living in some kind of"Bizarro" universe where GLBT student clubs are OK but the Boy Scouts are considdered morally offensive.

As an adopted child who spent the first three years of my life in foster care, I have a hard time referring to my biological parents as my "real" parents. My real parents are the one's who loved and raised me.

Rukimini Callimachi appears to be another of the many GIM reporters in the AP stable of GIMs. It is a profilic writer of stories pushing/covering the gay agenda.

I made Life, too. I was beginning to lose interest when I got that far.

Ya. Early '70's. Then started to grow my hair long, in high school, and get interested in girls. But for a coupla years, scouts were pretty ok. Shouldn't be killed by aclu losers.

If the values of the Boy Scouts offend someone, they should get the hell out this country.

I was 13 and we were pulling up stakes to move back to the US from overseas. I was beginning to notice girls, too...

Nonsense. We homeschool and our kids know about evolution - certainly enough to do well on the tests - but by no means do we teach it as truth. I could teach my kids Star Trek trivia too if I wanted (well enough that they would kick butt on a standardized test about it) without trying to con them into believing that there might be tribbles under their beds.

Not really. Like it or not, you are the product of one male and one female, without whom you would not exist. I can appreciate your loyalty to those who raised you, that's appropriate, but you are here chatting online because of one man and one woman. They are your "real" parents, biologically speaking. Every human who ever lives has 'em. Nature is very discriminatory.

"Under pressure from gay and atheist parents, Portland school officials are considering a policy that would ban the Boy Scouts of America from recruiting students during school hours."

I take it the Portland schools don't allow any gay/lesbian groups to pass out info to students. No fliers from Planned Parenthood are offered to students. Nothing controversial taught in sex ed.

Yeah, right. And pigs can fly.

I prefer to use the phrase "biological parents" as opposed to "real parents." But I think we understand each other regardless.

That movement will get absolutely nowhere and the politicians that try to pass laws to get it enforced will be doing something else for a living.

By the way, homeschoolers are exempt from every provision of NCLB. Public schools can lose federal funding if they try to push it.

Moral Absolutes Ping.

Does it strike anyone as kind of "Twilight Zone-ish" that a group that promotes being "morally straight" and observing a "duty to God" as being OFFENSIVE?

Things are getting very, very bad. The horrible Boy Scouts - they've twisted generations of boys and young men. The only reason people are still taking this crap is because the water has been getting hotter very gradually. What will it take for conservatives and fence sitters to get really riled up?

Maybe, like the Ents, we have to wait until Saruman destroys bigtime.

Let me know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.

Homosexual Agenda Ping - an overlap here.

So the BSA are allowed to have information given to kids, but has to have a "disclaimer" that their values of being "morally straight" may be offensive.

I mean, what could possibly be worse for a kid than to be influenced towards becoming morally straight?

Crazy world.

Let me and ItsOurTimeNow know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.

I have good friends who homeschool, using a charter school in northern CA, and starting next year, they must use a standard set of textbooks (up until now they had a wide choice), and any books with ANY - ANY - religious references whatsoever will not be allowed to be used officially. And who knows what kind of propaganda will be in the approved books. The teacher doesn't like it either, and said with a "wink wink nudge nudge" that the children could still use whatever books the mother chooses.

Of course, unofficially they can still be used. For now.

I know, and some Boy Scouts remember this too. The school had a wonderful meeting room with side seats that held equipment. I remember the coke machine still gave 5 cent cokes, even when the machines elsewhere were a dime. I was very proud to wear my uniform to school. Sadly a kid would be declared homophobic and sent home if he tried it today.

The solution is to home school or private school. The Scouts could even form some schools, it would be nice to see.

In the meantime, lets do away with political correctness and while we are at it, lets do away with the leftist lawyers as well.
