And worship the Donkey.

There was plenty of great music written 200 years ago.

Absolutely. My cd collection has Rachmaninoff next to the Ramones, Bach next to Chuck Berry. I enjoy classical and baroque music.

Lots of rock and even metal musicians like and appreciate classical music, and even have had classical training.

Check out Yngwie Malmsteen. He began the neoclassical metal style of guitar (along with Richie Blackmore), and he based his solos on Nicolai Paganini's violin Caprices.

People still remember Buddy Holly and Richie Valens 50 years later. People still remember Robert Johnson 70 years later. People still remember Niccolo Paganini over 100 years later. People still remember King David as a good harpist. They were ALL considered extreme for their time or from certain jealous kings, even possible devil worshipers, and in David's case, he sent an innocent man to death in war for the man's wife, yet he was a man after God's own heart, according to the Bible.

That doesn't mean he deserved to be murdered, as this article implies.

That I agree with. But I would agree even if the guy was the worst guitarist in history. BTW. I never heard of him, but then again, I'm more inclined to Bach than rock.

Dimebag was certainly one of the best metal guitarists of modern times.

Ability to make a lot of racket and loudness is not to be compared to producing understandable and pleasant sounds!

You're from the south an you never seen a preacher beating the pulpit with one as if it were an attacking hyena?

I'm afraid not, though I have seen many preachers preach many sermons.

But, I don't tend to frequent movies and other forms of entertainment that perpetuate those hateful stereotypes.

Many conservatives do themselves a serious disservice by judging others they assume are not like them.

I get a kick of some of the hypocritical weekly churchgoers who act all holy during church but S%^& on people the rest of the week.

Chris - geez bud, you can't go 2 sentences without doing what you were just disparaging other people for doing? What's up with that?

Imagine living next door to Mozart?

Yeah LOL. Of course, my wife saw the movie "Amadeus" and immediately the comparisons between myself and him became the topic of conversation. I, apparently, am a lot like him, less the hedonism... So perhaps you should ask MY neighbors hee hee

I think the Metallica from "And Justice for All" and before. Black album is alright, but I can't stand Load-onward.

I along with my friends were actually wondering how long someone could expect to live with a nickname like Dimebag. Its like Ted Nugent always said "All my friends did drugs and now they are all dead I'm still around and I'm still Ted."

Heavy Metal and Rap are two of my least favorite music examples in the role model department. At least growing up in the 70's we had parents that were raising us attended unlike children that listen to a lot of crap these days left unattended which scares me.

Sexually-explicit lyrics? You've obviously never listened to their music - a lot of the "lyrics" are more "Lost Love" type songs, and many songs deal with the unhealthy consequences of drug abuse...

But hey, can't expect cultural elitists to be truthful about stuff they know nothing about...

I bet Dimebag was more conservative than the author of this piece.

I'll bet Darrell convinced a lot more people to vote for W than this pompous turd ever did.

The resident cultural maven, from Ohio and now resident of Germany where he can be close to the aryan culture. Ja Führer!

I just *knew* I'd heard this sentence before:

It was an assemblage of ignorant, semi-human barbarians who were filthy in attire and manner, intellectually incoherent and above all else, hideously ugly to the point of physical deformity.

Germany. 1934. 'Cept they were talking about Jews then, not metalheads.

Every single "Pantera" album carries a parental warning.

So does some of Ted Nugent's stuff.

Oh, for the love of God, he didn't get the name because he used drugs, a guitar store owner gave him the name because he used to by 10 cent guitar picks by the dollar. The owner started calling him 10 pack Darrell, but felt it was cheesy since beer came in 6 or 12, so he changed it to Dimebag. Man, I'm glad the guys at Guitar Center quit calling me "Probie", people might've thought I go in and out of jail so often, that I have my own personal cell.

BS. I find metal guitar to be very listenable and enjoyable.
