Just one more reason why we cannot give up. Good one.

Every one of these bastards should be strip-searched each day before they are allowed on base, and areas like the mess halls should be searched thoroughly every day for hidden explosives. Our troops have enough to deal with - they shouldn't be put in needless or unnecessary danger.

I can see that the mods are apparently going to continue to let you break the site rules, so I have no problem with replying to this.

What part of DO NOT POST TO ME AGAIN are you having trouble understanding?

Yes, that's what our troops do. They just allow stuff to happen. Why don't you educate us, Great One, as to how you would have handled this situation?

Maybe NOT LET PEOPLE WEARING EXPLOSIVE BELTS ANYWHERE NEAR THE PERIMETER OF THE BASE? The facts on this are still coming out - I would suggest that you let them before jumping down other poster's throats.

And I'm sure in short order you'll have blamed this on Sec. Rumsfeld.

And I'm sure in short order that you'd once again prove yourself a short-fused idiot. Looks like I was right.

Mosul blast 'suicide attack'
22/12/2004 17:19 - (SA)

http://www.news24.com/News24/World/Iraq/0,,2-10-1460_1639214,00.html

Washington - The powerful blast on Tuesday at a US military dining tent in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul which killed 26 people was a suicide attack, ABC News reported on Wednesday.

"A backpack found by investigators at the site and remnants of a torso indicate that the attack was caused by a suicide bombing," the US television station quoted unidentified sources as saying.

US President George W Bush on Tuesday referred to a "rocket attack" on the mess tent at the US military base in Mosul.

A top US commander in Iraq, Lieutenant-General Thomas Metz, said on Wednesday that experts were investigating what caused the blast, which left at least 14 US soldiers among the dead.

Asked by CNN television whether a bomb may have been planted in the dining hall, Metz said: "Well, it's certainly a possibility. And that's the reason we have our experts up there.

"They will be able to figure out exactly what calibre munition and type of indirect fire, if it was indirect," he said.

"If it was a bomb, I think they'll be able to figure out the size, the kinds of materials that were put into it.

"But our experts are there right now doing that investigation."

The al-Qaeda linked Army of Ansar al-Sunna on Tuesday claimed responsibility for the Mosul attack in a statement attributed to the group on an Islamist website.

You know - we are learning the hard way why Saddam was such a brutal dictator. At the first sign of any dissention, the opposition was rounded up and tortured and killed.

I believe that some of the Iraqi people deserve better than that. BUT - we see how Saddam was able to rule for so long.

Our view or this war and goals don't quite line up with the no-mercy method that these evil Muslim thugs understand. We try to be as humane as possible - which plays right into the thugs hands.

What's the answer? I don't know. How to deal with monsters? Treat them like monsters and hunt them down and kill them. No effort to "capture alive".

The right answer for this one is for Syria's Assad to buy the farm. A MOAB right on the palace.

>They are hiring 'civilitan' cooks instead of using US troops--I think this is foolish

I guess this is part
of "transforming" our forces --
by out-sourcing tasks.

The theory, I think,
is it frees up our soldiers
for the real fighting.

Results seem to be
lots of "contractors" killed, and,
now, moles in the works . . .

The same thing has been happening in Israel for years. Find out who sent this suicide bomber, who paid for his bomb, who paid his family and send a missile into his living room and destroy his entire family. If it is Iran, do it, if it is Saudi Arabia, do it, if it is Germany, do it.

> these terrorist are trying to make this like vietnam and trying to change the will of the people regarding this war ..

"...[D]uring the past 20 years, suicide terrorism has been steadily rising because terrorists have learned that it pays. Suicide terrorists sought to compel American andFrench military forces to abandon Lebanon in 1983, Israeli forces to leave Lebanon in 1985, Israeli forces to quit the Gaza Strip and the West Bank in 1994 and 1995, the Sri Lankan government to create an independent Tamil state from 1990 on, and the Turkish government to grant autonomy to the Kurds in the late 1990s. Terrorist groups did not achieve their full objectives in all these cases. However, in all but the case of Turkey, the terrorist political cause made more gains after the resort to suicide operations than it had before. Leaders of terrorist groups have consistently credited suicide operations with contributing to these gains. These assessments are hardly unreasonable given the timing and circumstances of many of the concessions and given that other observers within the terrorists’ national community, neutral analysts, and target government leaders themselves often agreed that suicide operations accelerated or caused the concession. This pattern of making concessions to suicide terrorist organizations over the past two decades has probably encouraged terrorist groups to pursue even more ambitious suicide campaigns."

I'm sure they're going to get much closer scrutiny now - it's horrible that this had to happen first, though. Since they seem to know who this guy was, no doubt his entire family and circle of thugs have been rounded up by now. From what I've read, Mosul seems to be locked down and we're going door to door.

No creditable planner forecast that we would be out of Iraq in two years.

There is no chance we will allow that nation to go back under the hands of Saddamites or into those of Islamic fanatics. We will pay the blood price and not cut and run because of a few casualties.

President Bush has REPEATEDLY told us this will be a long and violent confrontation and that we will stay the course. Apparently you don't believe him but I do.

If you post to a public thread, I will reply whenever and in what manner I wish (while adhering to Mr. Robinson's rules).

Whined to the mods yet?

"This is why guerilla action is almost impossible to stop and why the Iraqis need to defend their own country. We should arm every civilian with an M-16, pull our forces out, and tell them to "have at it.""

I agree except for one point. Why should we pay for their M-16's? Let them buy their own.

Tell whoever comes out on top that he better behave himself or his fate will be the same as Saddams. BTW, we need to hang Saddam already. What are we waiting for, the Iraqi's to release him?

The simple fact is Arabs don't respect any leaders who treats them with respect and dignity. The only ruler capable of maintaining order and security in Iraq will be just like Saddam.

This is why we might as well leave now. We will never be brutal enough to gain Arab respect.

Well, takes away their complaints about the tent dining facility.

Betting when/if we find out who the perp is, his family was/is threatened.
