International Aid is a very reputable faith based relief organization in West Michigan. I know several people that volunteer there...nearly all employees work on a voluntary basis so most of your donations go right to relief.

I recommend Lutheran World Relief; I have been told that over 95% of their donations go to disaster aid in the normal circumstance, and for a really horrible disaster, like 9-11, they generally waive any administrative costs and put it all to use as aid.

Together with CWS, IOCC is developing a regional response to the crisis, focusing initially on hardest-hit areas in Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, and elsewhere, and CWS assessment and relief teams are on their way to the region now.

If anyone knows of a place to donate money, food, or any other supplies, please post on the thread.

ROME, Dec 28 (Reuters) - The Vatican, appealing for urgent assistance from world Catholics, said on Tuesday it had raised $6 million so far in emergency aid following Asia's tsunami disaster that killed more than 50,000 people.

Members of church groups like Caritas and Jesuit Refugee Services were also being dispatched to affected countries to reinforce relief efforts, according to Cor Unum, the Vatican organisation that coordinates charity funds.

The web address you gave for Catholic Relief services is incorrect.

Here's the corrected address: Catholic Relief Services

They must be having a glitch. I am a sustaining donor, so haven't used their web page for awhile...

"Please don't send any money to Sri Lanka. The bigots can help themselves."

They don't need it anyway. There must be a dozen people each trying to get $5,000,000 out of Sri Lanka and they all need my help.

I heard on FoxNews Channel that Catholic Charities had sent in both money and people.

There are many Christians on Sri Lanka -- don't bash them. It was probably the Muslims who refused the aid from Israel anyway.

One of the priests we had at my parish was from Sri Lanka and I want to call him, because his mother still lives there.

So knock it off.

I would probably give my money to World Vision at this time -- they help the children!
