Vatican raps Israel for 'denying disaster'
J Post ^ | 29 dec 04 | Staff

The Vatican newspaper has denounced what it called a decision by the IDF to deny emergency help to disaster victims in Sri Lanka.

Calling for "a radical and dramatic change of perspective" among people "too often preoccupied with making war," L'Osservatore Romano singled out Israeli military leaders for declining a request for emergency medical help.

Contrary to the Vatican report, an Israeli plane carrying 80 tons of food and medical supplies worth $100,000 was set to depart for Sri Lanka Wednesday morning. At the request of the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry, a team of some 150 Israeli medical and security personnel aborted their planned trip to the island nation Tuesday night.

The Vatican paper observed that in what "should be a time for unconditional solidarity," some world leaders seem incapable of escaping a "small-minded approach that restricts their horizons."

The fact that the devastation swept across different societies, cultures, and nations should help to reinforce the universal perspective, the paper suggested. (Jerusalem Post staff and agencies)

You obviously have no clue as to what your paltry pennies have purchased for you.

The State of Israel has returned to our country far more than we have ever given it.

They have borne the brunt for decades while folks like you sit in safety and complain.

That is what I don't get. My girlfriend is Jewish

TRAITOR!!! Must be from Lawn Guyland... ;-)

In all seriousness, this makes Clemenza VERY disappointed. The Eurotrash who run the Vatican are cut from the same cloth as Jacques Chirac and Gerhard Schroeder.

As to the other things you mention, yes, I am completely unaware of them.

Shame on you.

Vatican delegation astonished by cancellation of meeting with Israel

from the article:

"The reaction in the church to the last-minute cancellation is astonishment at what appears to be a pattern of last-minute, unilateral cancellations by Israel of crucially important meetings," said a Catholic source close to the Vatican delegation.

No reason was given for the cancellation, he said.

"This was a meeting for which (the Israelis) were preparing for 12 years," he said. "Every time we are getting close to an issue they withdraw. It is very perplexing. How can the issue be resolved if they won't even talk about it?"

Israel, Vatican resume talks toward final accord

from the article:

Negotiations between the Holy See and the government of Israel on a financial accord will be resumed on July 5, after a long diplomatic impasse, representatives of both sides have announced.

The Vatican Secretariat of State and Israeli ambassador Oded Ben Hur joined in the June 18 announcement that efforts to reach agreement on financial issues would be reopened in Jerusalem. The negotiations broke down in August 2003, when Israeli representatives broke off the talks...

The lack of progress on negotiations had been one of several sources of diplomatic tension between the Holy See and the Israeli state. Another cause of friction has been the Israeli government's failure to renew visas for Catholic priests and religious working in the Holy Land. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has announced plans to form a committee to resolve that problem; Vatican officials are still awaiting signs of a change in policy. Finally, the Vatican has expressed keen concerns about the Israeli "security wall" through Palestinian territory, which has dispossessed some Catholic communities from their land and restricted access to some churches and shrines, in an apparently violation of the terms of the fundamental accord.

Does anyone have an English translation of this issue of L'Osservatore Romano so we can see for our selves?

So, as long as a few people can get to a shrine, the Israelis should just 'take it' and keep allowing Pali terrorists to continue to get in and kill them, right? They should not try to protect Israelis, though, right?

BOB DYLAN - Neighborhood Bully

Well, the neighborhood bully, he's just one man
His enemies say he's on their land
They got him outnumbered about a million to one
He got no place to escape to, no place to run
He's the neighborhood bully.

The neighborhood bully he just lives to survive
He's criticized and condemned for being alive
He's not supposed to fight back,
he's supposed to have thick skin
He's supposed to lay down and die when his door is kicked in
He's the neighborhood bully.

The neighborhood bully been driven out of every land
He's wandered the earth an exiled man
Seen his family scattered, his people hounded and torn
He's always on trial for just being born
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, he knocked out a lynch mob, he was criticized
Old women condemned him, said he should apologize
Then he destroyed a bomb factory, nobody was glad
The bombs were meant for him. He was supposed to feel bad
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, the chances are against it, and the odds are slim
That he'll live by the rules that the world makes for him
'Cause there's a noose at his neck and a gun at his back
And a licence to kill him is given out to every maniac
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, he got no allies to really speak of
What he gets he must pay for, he don't get it out of love
He buys obsolete weapons and he won't be denied
But no one sends flesh and blood to fight by his side
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, he's surrounded by pacifists who all want peace
They pray for it nightly that the bloodshed must cease
Now, they wouldn't hurt a fly. To hurt one they would weep
They lay and they wait for this bully to fall asleep
He's the neighborhood bully.

Every empire that's enslaved him is gone
Egypt and Rome, even the great Babylon
He's made a garden of paradise in the desert sand
In bed with nobody, under no one's command
He's the neighborhood bully.

Now his holiest books have been trampled upon
No contract that he signed was worth that what it was written on
He took the crumbs of the world and he turned it into wealth
Took sickness and disease and he turned it into health
He's the neighborhood bully.

What's anybody indebted to him for ?
Nothing, they say. He just likes to cause war
Pride and prejudice and superstition indeed
They wait for this bully like a dog waits to feed
He's the neighborhood bully.

What has he done to wear so many scars ?
Does he change the course of rivers ?
Does he pollute the moon
and stars ?
Neighborhood bully, standing on the hill
Running out the clock, time standing still
Neighborhood bully.

Israel is Jacob, son of Isaac, and his descendents under the Law. It is not a politial entity that arrogates to itself a name that belongs to a people. Just because you name something "Israel" does not make it so.

A Truth that deserves more attention.

I've found these with the first dated 12 29 2004:

this dated 12 28 2004:

[02048-01.01]

and this dated 12 26 2004:

DOPO L’ANGELUS

This is true. If not for the United States, there would be no Israel, and there would be fewer Jews, too.

Israel fought the 1948 War for Independence without any help from the USA. At the time an arms embargo was put on Israel. The myth that Israel needs America to survive is just demoralizing to Jews. Israel appreciates America's support though sometimes it means Israel must appease their enemies and go into "Peace Talks".

Well, you believe whatever you want. The fact is that Israel would have little standing in the international community were it not for the leverage the United States provides.

You do know that the topic country, Sri Lanka, is comprised of Buddhists and Hindus primarily? It has a small component of Christians, 8%, and even fewer Moslems.
