Vatican raps Israel for 'denying disaster'

The Vatican newspaper has denounced what it called a decision by the IDF to deny emergency help to disaster victims in Sri Lanka.

Calling for "a radical and dramatic change of perspective" among people "too often preoccupied with making war," L'Osservatore Romano singled out Israeli military leaders for declining a request for emergency medical help.

Contrary to the Vatican report, an Israeli plane carrying 80 tons of food and medical supplies worth $100,000 was set to depart for Sri Lanka Wednesday morning. At the request of the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry, a team of some 150 Israeli medical and security personnel aborted their planned trip to the island nation Tuesday night.

The Vatican paper observed that in what "should be a time for unconditional solidarity," some world leaders seem incapable of escaping a "small-minded approach that restricts their horizons."

The fact that the devastation swept across different societies, cultures, and nations should help to reinforce the universal perspective, the paper suggested. (Jerusalem Post staff and agencies)

You posted it. Do you believe it?

If you do not believe it, you did a very stupid thing.

If you do believe it, you are beneath contempt.

In either case, You Are the Weakest Link.

G'bye.

Maybe you should take your attempt at moral superiority and shove it where the sun doesn't shine!

Not a question of moral superiority, its a question of conforming to the rules of the board.

I'm sorry your vocabulary is as limited and your ability to understand the concept of following the rules. I guess some animals are more equal than others huh?

No, my vocabulary isn't limited. So sorry you think intelligent people do not use profanity. I guess you think VP Cheney has a limited vocabulary as well?

I suspect someone is protesting a little too much don't you? Perhaps he/she agrees with that freeper's sentiments.

Humm...I guess next time one of my children use the "everyone else is doing it" excuse for inappropriate behavior or language, I'll just have to accept it as now valid reason for misbehavior. Congratulations on your ability to rationalize and compartmentalize!

Ohhh...I see. So if the comment is made in public, then you decide, oh great one, that the speaker has a limited vocabulary. If made in private, it's ok.

I don't, I think someone at the Vatican opened his mouth when he should have kept it shut. I also think that Israel, and all nations who offered support should be commended.

But since you posted your comment obliquely, please feel free to ignore this post.

Primary: L'Osservatore Romano
Alternate(s): Vatican newspaper
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Definition:
The Vatican's "semi-official" newspaper carries complete coverage of the Pope's activities, publishes editorials by prominent churchmen, and prints official documents upon their release.

L'Osservatore Romano is published in the afternoon, carrying a cover date of the following day-- an oddity that often causes misunderstandings.

The Vatican Paper is not an official reflection of the Pope or of Church doctrine. Besides, I think it makes sense to see the fully translated article to understand the context with which this was said.

Nope, just didn't think of it after I read her second use of prohibited language. Do you think she would have reacted differently?

Perhaps Christians better known as the dhimmis in the Muslim world would be better treated under Palestinian Rule?

Incidentally, I have perused the PDF of the front page of L'Osservatore Romano for Dec. 29 (on which the CWN article claims to have gotten those quotes), and the only mention of Israel I can find is something roughly translated thusly:

It is of these hours, in fact, the news second which the Government of the Sri Lanka has refused the attendance of a medical team from the Israeli army that would be due to leave in order to carry aid to the victims of the tsunami.

So, I have no idea who really said what about whom.
