Girls stomp kitten; then brag about it

Two girls from New Jersey are facing animal-cruelty charges after allegedly stomping on a kitten before burying it alive up to its neck.

"This is beyond sick – it's evil," Cumberland County SPCA Agent Beverly Greco told the Bridgeton News. "We have reached a new low."

The 13-year-olds from Laurel Lake, N.J., reportedly acquired two kittens Dec. 5, but were told by their father they couldn't keep the animals "We received information from the local animal-control officer and the school [they attended] that the girls were bragging about what they had done," Greco said.

"The girls, who are stepsisters who live separately, reportedly had taken two 8-month-old kittens who had been offered for adoption by their owner."

"They took the kittens to a nearby wooded area, where one of the kittens escaped. The other one was stomped, had a red tank top tied around its neck, and was buried in the dirt with its head sticking out."

Greco said most of the feline's bones had been broken during the onslaught.

"Another person found the dead kitten and removed it from the dirt and reburied it," she told the paper. "We exhumed the kitten and did a necropsy on the body, and determined that it had suffocated from the dirt packed around it after the girls buried it."

The names of the girls were being withheld by authorities because of their age, but each have been charged with three counts of animal cruelty and a disorderly persons offense.

Words cannot describe how horrible this is. THIS is why animal cruelty should be a felony.

and somehow I doubt these kids will be charged with anything that would send them to a real jail.

These girls lack empathy, and so it's likely that they've received none from the adults around them. Those adults have started them off as little monsters; if responsible people step in, maybe the girls can be salvaged. As for the adults, there's probably nothing that will help.

This is disgusting. Animal cruelty should be a crime and these girls should be diciplined by their parents - severly and with a belt.

Agreed. People who downplay the importance of actions like this by saying "oh, it's just an animal" don't understand that there are very few people in our society who could be so cruel and callous toward a living thing... and those people are a danger to society not only because of what they've done to an animal but because of the likelihood their animal cruelty will translate into cruelty to people.

Sick, sick people. They need punishment and loads of therapy.

Bad seed! I have always maintained that there is "bad seed" in humans. Beyond redemption. Beyond forgiveness. Beyond pity....

Bad seed!

Before the "It's-just-an-animal" jackasses start braying, I'd like to point out that most serial killers start with animals and work their way up.

Also, this is why you should NEVER give animals away for free - at worst, you get sickos who want to practice their sickness on the giveaways and dogfighters looking for practice kills for their beasts; at best, people value things less when they don't pay for them. If the giver had charged as little as $10 a kitten (to be donated to a local animal shelter, for example) I'll bet the little psychos would have never taken them.

These demons should be banned from owning animals for life, over and above any jail time.

Can you just imagine the mewling of this poor kitten as its bones were being crushed and broken?

You and I both know that is not going to happen. They were bragging!

There will be counseling, therapy sessions, tears, hugs forgiveness, etc. Anything except real punishment IMHO.

Once I become a counselor and if I hear about something along the likes of this, then I will suggest a good ass kicking for the girls. Sometimes traditional methods work the best for modern nutjobs, such as Old Spanky.

I think we don't want to take the lid off. We might not like what we see. If we can't control our children, our children become uncontrollable.

What is more disturbing is the vanishing of these girls natural instincts. I'm taking care of five abandoned kittens, sure it's a tuff job, but where are these girls maternal instincts and mercy towards to helpless babies?
