Found this on FAA site,

http://www.hf.faa.gov/docs/508/docs/cami/0107.pdf

Has a pic near the end that shows the winshield splash effect of a low level laser.

To all the nay-sayers poo-pooing dangers of laser pointers directed at aircraft, please go to the FAA link provided by 2IfByC in post # 85!

Some of the key points are: eyes are much more sensitive to green light than red light; danger is not permanent physical eye damage, rather that when the laser hits the cockpit glass the whole windshield glares - it will startle pilots at the least and can impact night-adapted vision for some time at the worst.

The FAA pub has some graphs and a photo of what the windshield looks like when illuminated by laser pointer. The glare is definitely harsh and wipes out the view out of the cockpit.

Other intersting points in the pub: folks talk about low power/unit area of these pointers, but take the power per unit area hitting the cornea... due to focusing of the eye's lens, the power at the retina is increased 10,000 times! This would only be danger factor for eye damage at very short range (<10 ft or so), but definitely these puppies aren't to be casually aimed at an aquaintance's eyes.
