San Francisco has no issues more pressing than dog rights.

My fear is this. Let's say, for example, your dog really likes to be out in the yard during the day (as does mine). Let's say you get an inaccurate weather forecast. In the middle of the day it starts to rain. You rush home as soon as you are able to go and bring Fido in. As you roll up, there awaits a cop with an arrest warrant. That's my fear ......

They've had the same thing in Boulder, Co. for a couple of years now. I guess if you're a bad "guardian" Pet Protective Services can take your dog away and throw you in jail.

My guys are a yellow lab (9 yrs) and a black lab (7 years). Our son is grown and lives on the Left Coast, which is kind of a shame, because, as you know, labs just love kids. We had some neighbors over for drinks on Christmas Eve, and it was a treat to see one couple's 10 month old daughter crawling around on the floor with these two very large dogs, pulling their ears, grabbing their fur to pull herself up, and getting many kisses in the process.

Most people don't abuse their pets.

She is an attack baboon...no wait...that is my husband.

Actually, she a a lovely red nosed red american pitbull terrier. She seems to love everyone she meets & covers them with kisses. But, a few times there have been some "sketchy characters" and her guard goes up so I know she will protect me if needed.

The term, "pet owner" is enslaving.

BARF... I mean, Bark!

A dog out in the rain? How cruel. Down through the centuries dogs have never been exposed to the rain. I can imagine if a dog got wet it would probably just melt away like the witch in wizard of Oz. Dogs are animals. If one gets wet it isn't going to hurt it.

I agree with the fact that maybe he should have had a dog house, but I will point to something here. Wild animals, wild dogs, coyotes, wolves, all members of the canine family spend all their life living in the elements, doesn't do them much damage. Deer, fox, rabbits, squirrels ect. I could go on all day. What about domestic cows. They don't have houses. Should we require a house for them? Cattle stand out in all sorts of weather and it doesn't hurt them.

I like dogs, I have owned a number of them and loved them, but you are going to have to come up with something better than the dog got wet to get my sympathy, especially in SF where the mean temp is somewhere around 58 degrees, hardly a brutal climate.

This law, IMO, is useless and serves only to put undo burdens on dog owners, just as gun laws put undo burdens on gun owners. This law is for control only and will probaly have the effect of some kid never owning a dog because the parents won't want to put up with the crap.

They won't stop here either, once they get their foot in the door they will keep adding rules and regulations and raising the "dog" tax they are bound to impose in order to suppor the laws.

Why not give the dog rights? You don't need to actually read the constitution literally, after all somewhere in the meaning of equal protection the founders must have intended Dogs have fundamental rights. A stretch you say?

Ask Chief Justice Margret Marshall.

My dog has me well-trained. She rings a bell when she needs to go outside. When I hear the bell, I get up and take her for a walk. I'm serious.

Animal control officers say it was difficult to prosecute pet abusers under the old law, because the standards were too vague.

For the sake of the animals, I thank God for this law.

There are people who believe it's not necessary to provide food, water and adequate shelter for their dogs.

With this law, animal control has the power to remove dogs from animal abusers.

Thanks for the ping!

The horror.

Yes it was.....I don't like to see any animal treated like that.....period. The owner needs to be tied up like that and left to fend for himself with no protection from the elements.

So I guess that makes me a bleeding heart.....so be it.

Be careful what you wish for. The next law will provide specifications for what you can and can't do with your children. By the way, what will they be doing with all those homeless dogs? Kill them?

Cows stand in the rain. The difference is you're sensitized to feeling one way about one type of animal and eating the other.
