Not all, just LA, Santa Barbara and the SF area.

Oh, so true. But it's fun to drive around Contra Costa County (just east of SF County, and unfortunately, a blue county,) with my W '04 bumper sticker. Even more fun to give those with sKerry stickers the L salute.

Believe it or not, I'm schoolin' at UC Berkeley right now, right in the heart of the lefty movement.

Sad, yes. Do I care? No!

Personally, I feel that anyone who can't live in a city, state, etc. just because of its political leanings is weak. You can't truly believe in something unless you can defend your opinion. True, living among conservatives sounds nice, but I'll stick to my diversity of thought, thank you very much.

I mean, where else can I learn how to debate than amongst a whole bunch of liberals? Hell, all this debate helps me on FR, too! :)

It also gave us CA prop 187 and a historic recall election, forcing one of the biggest leftist governors in this country to go down in total disgrace.

By the way, the current president spoke out against prop 187 before he became president, shortly afterwards the feds working in concert with state big gov hacks, burned our ballots and declared our free election illegal. Is anyone here surprised?

Being from Maryland I can relate to you regarding having your state trashed. Even though our states went blue, we can certainly take comfort in the fact that we are among the millions who gave G.W. a good margin of victory in the popular vote.

Interesting........ lets see

14.9 million vs. 33.8 million pop = 44%

12.7 million vs. 20.8 million pop = 60%

8.3 million vs. 15.9 million pop = 52%

Okay gotcha now.....

The problem in California is that the conservatives are either totally ineffective or they compromise away all of their potentially winning conservative principles.

California has a terrible climate for business, a large sales tax plus an income tax, plus wacky environmental laws plus even when they tried to set up a free market to deal with their self-created energy crisis they completely ignored the basic laws of market economics and only succeeded in making the crisis worse.

Conservatives may be a numerically significant minority in California but they only represent a POTENTIALLY (as opposed to an effectively) significant POLITICAL force. In some ways their position is a lot like that of the ethnic minorities in the Democrat party.

BTW, pointing to success in kicking Davis out of office is hardly an indication of any effective influence. Davis was so self-destructive, his success in getting elected in the first place only points to the lack of polictally significant power of conservatives there.

44.2% of CA voted for Bush...less than a six point swing would make it a red state. Knuckledraggers write the state off because they have to have something/someone to hate.

Think of what could be done if we could make that happen. Instead, the real deep thinkers of FR (and those that never peel themselves away from their couches) smash, bash and discourage CA conservatives because, you know, it makes them feel superior.

but there is a difference between regular Dems and Boxer activist........this state voted for prop 187 to stop benefits for illegals before the courts got to it and we also voted that marriage is between a man and a woman...

My husband and I love living in central California. It is a beautiful place, filled with wonderful people and breathtaking scenery. My husband also proudly serves, active duty, in this great state -- and has done so for the past 21 years.

Thank God for the conservatives who live here, vote here, and pray here. God Bless America. God Bless California.

This is so true. Until the Republicans wake up and realize the California Republican Party is the fox in the hen house than nothing will change. AR NO had his opportunity to campaign for Bush in this state. He also had the opportunity to give Boxer a run for her money by campaigning for the Republican candidate but complete silence. So instead he went to Ohio???? I guess Maria only gave him permission to go there. AR NO is the biggest girlyman of all. AR NO is one of the foxes in the hen house. His lack of actions in the last election told me everything I need to know about him and the so called Republican Party in the state of California. The Reagan Republicans are still here but the party is not.

And I'm expecting Cali to go Red in 08!

GOP Presidential candidates won CA five consecutive times in recent history (from '68 - '88), but have lost the last four ('92 - '04), unfortunately. The rapidly-growing third-world demographic has a lot to do with that, no doubt. .....as does the continued massive influx of liberals from other states. It'll be difficult to turn the tide. ...but not impossible.

That is true but where are these props now? The courts over turned 187 and told the people of California were to stick it. San Francisco still keeps trying to have their state sanctioned marriages. Listen, the Republican Party in the state of California is no friend to the Reagan Conservatives. They only brought in AR NO to stop the tide of conservatism that was rolling in. We need to stop listening to these scare tactics of how we need to go center (in other words go left my friend) and take our party back.

well yes it is an uphill battle here at times but some folk here trash the whole state and don't know a thinga about Calif and given enough time to research I could come up with a host of problems in all the states......I've been to 43 states but would not presume to know those states like those who live there.....Calif also provides a hell of alot of opportunity and even though Gray Davis fu**ed up the state, it still holds the higher percentage of Fortune 500 companies than any other state.....quoting just negative stuff doesn't not negate the positive things.....it is still the 7th largest economy in the world....

What good does having all those conservatives and still have no power its like saying I have the biggest car but the fastest belongs to your neighbor. Bigger isnt necessarily better.

The funny thing is, 20 years ago when CA was screaming about the illegal problem and asking for Federal help and support from the rest of the country, we were given the middle finger. I can still remember some of th comments over the years..."Screw the Californicators, it's their problem, HAHAHAHA!".

Now most states have the same problem and it is probably unfixable. If the CA haters were turned out 20 years ago, we might have been able to nip the whole illegal problem in the bud.

CA haters...bad for the country.

I can agree that the Repub party here is torn in two directions but the court overturned 187.......what i was saying is that the people voted for it so the will of the people was still more conservative on the issue than some think.....
