I have built models for years. I no longer buy models from stores. First off, you can't find any military models at stores anymore. I guess they are not PC for some companies, Second, as you mentioned, the cost is outrageous.

I look for model shows in my area. At those shows there are always tons of vendors with plenty of kits to sell at more reasonable prices.

I hoped to get my young son involved with building models, but this article does not paint a bright picture for the industry to be around much longer. Sad!

My son just started building model airplanes. He built his first one last week, a Spitfire. I guess this whole operation is going down the drain.

Bet they are not made in US, or they are from very small companies. I guess this is the future of these kits. With our weak enforcement of IP treaties, plastic models will simply come from overseas ??

Really? What a surprise- most of the models from when I was a kid, especially planes, were military models. Nobody had a problem with that. I haven't really looked at models for a long time- my brothers had plenty of them when we were growing up and I'd imagined being able to buy the same kinds today for their grandsons. Guess not. Sad.
