DOOFUS du jour

A woman planning to burn down her house for the insurance money in Greensburg, Pa., removed almost all of her furniture, a TV, clothes and several large appliances and covered them with a protective tarp in her back yard before setting the house on fire.

SLOW RIDE

In Butler, Pa., Joel Crytzer, 63, was charged with marijuana possess-ion when officers spotted the drug on the floor of his car, which they had stopped because Crytzer had been cruising down he road, seemingly oblivious to the fact that his car had only three tires.

This is really funny!!

LOL!

"WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES

An Atlanta woman with counterfeit bills she wanted to pass went to a grocery store and attempted to pay for goods by mixing the counter-feit bills in with some real cash. When a clerk noticed that some of the bills were fake the woman fled, leaving all the cash behind. Upon returning home, she had her boyfriend call the police and ask if they could come by the station and claim the money she'd left behind that wasn't fake. The cops said, "Sure," and the two were arrested when they arrived at the police station."

I've got a relative thru marriage that did the DOOFUS du jour thing a number of years ago just to get out of making payments on the house and collect the insurance. I'm sorry to say that he's still in the family.

Sounds like the scene in Tommy Boy (or was it Black Sheep) where Tommy Boy gets pulled over in the "souped up" police car. The Nitrous Oxide was leaking into the car. They were pulled over for doing 6mph!!!

In my state of Florida a young couple had several pounds of pot stolen from their house. So they called the police and said they had been robbed! LOL. Needless to say they were arrested.

Something is not right about this, if the pot was gone there was no evidence, and only the word of those arrested and that would self-incrimination before they were mirandized.

Could someone with a better understanding of law help explain this.

You don't have to be read your rights until you are under arrest.

If you voluntarily confess a crime to the police, there's no Miranda issue. Police only have to remind you of your rights if they arrest you.

There is always "Drug paraphernalia" charges if they can't actually find any positives. Like possessing "burglar tools" qualifies as intent, or "bomb making" materials if you have moth balls and gasoline, or "manufacturing machine guns" if you own an M1 carbine and a Dremel moto-tool.
