STATE OF THE UNION -- 2005 [Live Thread]
2/2/05

Posted on 02/02/2005 3:43:44 PM PST by Timeout

The pre-spin: Bush will spend about 1/2 the speech on foreign policy, 1/2 on domestic, with heavy emphasis on Social Security reform. It's said he will provide a detailed tutorial on the SS system and its problems with a few details on his personal accounts proposal.

Laura's guests are said to be an Afghan voter and an Iraqi voter (too bad there's no Ukrainian wearing an orange hat!).

Should we start a drinking game on how many times the pool camera swings to Hillary? Hmmm. Probably not...it would likely hamper out typing ability.

Word on the blogs has it that the closing part of the speech is a hum-dinger. Set your VCR's.

Report here on outrageous MediaCrat spin before AND after the SOTU. Pictures and screen caps welcome.

Yes, thank God for Michael who does a wonderful job carrying on the legacy of his father, while little Ron carries on the legacy of--oh, I don't know--maybe Ted Kennedy and Barney Fag! *did I just type that?!!!!*

I have just listened to the replay(my first hearing of the speech)..I had unfortunately heard RReaganJr cynically talk about the Norwood/Iraqi moment with Chris Matthews....

You cannot stage the hug and emotion between the Iraqi woman and Mrs. Norwood..Yes, you can place people in close proximity, but one cannot fake that moment. Ron jr is simply there for his name..His commentary is disgraceful

I was very proud of the President's speech tonight..I hated not to share it here on FR...I've been catching up on the commentary here.. I take it I can skip dem response without missing a thing!

You sound far more "over-the-top" to me than Joe!!!

I saw that post. "Over the top" is an understatement. Didn't rate a response from me. But thanks.

Would love to be a fly on the wall to know what people are saying when they whisper in his ear or ask something of him on this kind of occasion.

Another closer one of Doro

And here's Thelma

Thelma Center, 89, gestures as she discusses President Bush's State of the Union address Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at a retirement community in Miami. Bush provided some details on a proposed overhaul of Social Security, a critical issue to nearly 3 million Floridians age 65 and older.

Relax, Thelma .. no worries for you.

It was a very moving moment, which most of us who were privileged to witnss it, will recall until our final exit from this mortal coil.

At least we avoided a couple of the tired cliches that were dragged out the other week like "freedom is on the march" ...

The people of Afghanistan, Iraq and Ukraine would probably agree with you, right?

The reality now is, the Iraqis should be thanking us, and showing some big time respect for *us*.

You make it too easy, Joe. LOL!

Did you hear the President say, when they had the floor mike on, "...I never listen to what the media has to say", or something like that! Love the guy!

Newz, respectfully, I disagree with most of your reply. What I contend most is He's a liar and a scoundral [sic].

In a building filled to the rafters with liars and scoundrels, President Dubya was the most honest and sincere human there (excepting those attending in military uniform).

Dubya may not be perfect (who is?), but he's much smarter and capable than most credit him as being.

Nice pic, and photo op, but clearly, I was referring to what the president said about *us* earning Iraqis respect.

Mathematics really does play here. And with more bodies in a given category, wages will tend to sink where illegals can compete, towards the minimum wage, assuming the jobs are on the books. The stats simply bear this out. The inequality of wages has grown very substantially since illegal immigration gained real momentum. No sweat off my back, but it has changed the social landscape in my neck of the woods. High wage Anglos push paper, often very high value added paper, and low wage folks who work with their muscles tend to be Hispanic, with a huge wage gap. Lower middle class and working class Anglos have to a substantial extent, decamped.
