Moving On Out (Gibson on libs going to Canada)

Here we have an odd situation. The French say they're over it. But 18,000 actual Americans say they are definitely not. Over what, you ask? Over the election of George W. Bush.

The French have decided they have to get along with Bush and they will just swallow their massive Gallic pride and try to get along — somehow — with an American president they consider stupid, uninformed and way, way, way too Texan.

But, according to The New York Times, at least 12,000 American citizens — maybe as high as 18,000 depending on how you're doing the figuring — are so angry and disaffected by the election of Bush that they're moving to Canada.

That's three times the usual number of Americans who move to Canada every year and a mere fraction of the number of Canadians who move the opposite direction — to the U.S. — every year.

Remember when Alec Baldwin (search) said he'd move if Bush were elected? Baldwin didn't ... and that's a good thing, because he's a pretty good actor when he isn't running his mouth about politics.

All these other Americans are so disgusted they're heading to Canada and guess what they're running into right away? The vaunted Canadian bureaucracy, which is going to make Americans wait years to move to the Great White North.

Only if they become Canadian citizens... otherwise, they still have the right to vote in our election.

I suspect that many will be coming back after they realize that its' not all that rosy up there in Canada.

They want us taxed not themselves... thus, they will be crawling back to the good old U.S. of A.

IMO, it will be a wonderful thing for these useless idiots to emigrate (not just move) to Canada. After a few years of the bureacracy, socialism, high taxes, etc., they will come crawling back across he borderwith their tais between their legs.

The only potential benefit is that they will likely return as the most hard core conservatives on the face of the earth.

If we allow them to return, that is.

When I see evidence that Canada has "moved closer to the right", I'll be more sympathetic. I know many conservative Canadians, but why can't you guys elect even a moderate gov't?

I agree, Canada is too close and they could come back. Send 'em somewhere where we never have to hear from them again.

18,000 only??? That's pretty pathetic and shows that the majority of libs have no conviction whatsoever.

Let's try to bump those numbers to 118,000 after the 2006 midterms. Cheers.

Just as Canada moves closer to the right than it has been in decades

Gay marriages, medical (and non-medical) marijuana, etc, etc - how is Canada closer to the right recently?

"Oh yeah. The world would be much poorer without Alec Baldwin's contribution to The Cat In The Hat and The Adventures of Pluto Nash"
But the world would be poorer without his performances in "Glengary Glenross", "The Cooler", and "The Hunt for Red October". I agree that Alec Baldwin is a loudmouthed, liberal jackass, but he is also a good actor. All actors seem to make bad movies, either for the money or because they get screwed up by the director. Let's give this guy credit for what he is good at as well as what is annoying about him.

Liberals have lost seats in Parliment and the Conservative party has steadily gained seats. The SSM is a sham, 2/3 of Canadians support the traditional definition. Marijuana has been "almost legalized" for five years now and it is still illegal. The plan on weed is actually to decrimminalize it, not make it legal. (No crimminal record, just a fine).

I'm fine with sending them to Quebec though. It's almost France and that will raise English speakers in the province.

What is the third largest Canadian city?

Population-wise, I think it is LA.

Hunt For Red October and Glengary Glenross were filmed during the Papa Bush Administration.

Anyway, he doesn't have to be in America to make movies. If he was out of the country, maybe he could have been in The Motorcycle Diaries or something.

Talk is cheap. Even that Keyes guy who has been the figurehead for this propaganda ploy only says that he has put his house on the market.

Has Alec Baldwin moved yet? I doubt if any of these guys will move either, unless they are moving because they happen to have a job up there.
