You can bet your butt(no pun intended) that if one guy in San Diego has it he has planted his seed and the seed of the new strain of HIV in someone elses butt. These guys spread HIV like peanut butter.

"No it isn't. Just notify the homo communtity since they are the only ones who should care."

Not trying to sound politically correct here, but remember this won't just be confined to homos cause it'll spread to the straights who like to engage in random annonymous sex via bisexuals who have sex with women. But the overall message remains clear: monogomous sex with your spouse is the best way to not get this. Most AIDS cases beyond the 80's (those blood transfusions) are completely self-inflicted.

I have HUGE sympathy and caring for the "accidental victims" of AIDS - contaminated transfusions and accidental fluid transfers etc - and am so sorry your Beloved Godson died from that terrible disease. Prayers for him, M.

I've avoided all surgery since 'getting back from 'Nam, in '72.

My condolences on your Godson and yes, there are those that are afflicted not through conduct, but chance. I don't think that the "gays deserve it" attitude reflects well on FreeRepublic when stated in such broadbrushed terms. I do, however, understand anger at the gay community using the affliction as a money grabbing political issue when they really could do so much more....

This is weird, the article goes to great lengths not to identify the sex of the San Diego person ... yet the title clearly states "man".

I took care of an AIDS patient in '80. We had no idea what he had. He was going nuts because no doctor could diagnose him. He was wasting away, in hindsite, it was a classic AIDS case.

Thank goodness he was in complete isolation.

Surprise, surprise, this was in North Hollywood.

This will surely be an epidemic by summer. The signs are all there. The numbers of partners these guys are having over a short time and the lack of safeguards but wealth of drugs.

The guy in NY got it from somebody, no telling how many men he had sex with. At a drugs and bareback party he could have easily infected (a low number here) 3(?) others (quite possibly more). The circles this guy was running in probably mirrored his behavior. 3 a week per guy with each new infection nailing another 3 a week? Unbelieveable numbers can be reached in a very short time.

That this strain appears to be so aggressive may be a good thing. It will burn itself out and not break into the hetro population as stealthily as the original strain did.

You'be been lucky,thank God.

My Godson had been in an automobile accident and it was emergency surgery. The operation was a success but the patient died. A tough time for everyone, especially his parents.

No one knew what was wrong with him when he started to fail about 8 months after the surgery and when he was finally diagnosed the nurses wouldn't even shave him.

He had a good, supportive family even when little was known about the disease.

I don't have to love anybody. It's not a part of MY religion. :-)

No, it has the potential to spread far and wide extremely fast. It's not fast enough to burn itself out. No offense, but three per week is a very very low estimate.

Whole lotta bad comments going on in this thread.
Love the sinner, hate the sin.
Don't darken your hearts.

Pray the guy doesn't suffer, and pray he didn't pass it on. Pray that there are those who will learn lessons from this new supervirus.

Have compassion.

An unidentified San Diego resident...

Of course they can't identify the homosexual carrying it, that might interfere with his nightlife of spreading this among his fellow perverts.

Who am I kidding, that would probably make even more popular with the "bug chasers" crowd.

Diversity is our strength right?
