I sorta think the Miss America program has outlived its usefulness, but maybe a reality show would work.

I had a college classmate who was a contestant. She won the talent competition, but she didn't make the 10 finalists. So after the parade of states, we never saw her again.

This ~might~ be a way to show some of the women from other states.

I wonder whether the presidency will ever be decided on "reality TV"

Did anyone ever really watch it? Maybe before other choices came along. It is outdated and they have made it SO PC, who would want to watch it. It is a beauty contest and yet they have added all this over junk to it to make it more PC.

Yeah *lol* If they want to stay alive in the ad driven age, they have to do something. I watched the pageant every year with my mom. I have to believe people younger than me aren't watching it that much.

Oh, yeah. I'd love to see the cat fight behind the curtain. It would cause me to make an emotional investment.

I used to watch it, watch to criticize dresses, etc. Otherwise I could care less about one's favorite charity. Erika Harold caused a little stink with her abstinence only christian based thing, but now it's ZZZZZZZZZZZ...what next?

Add my household to yours. Reality shows are insipid and a waste of my precious time. Gilligan's Island reruns are far more entertaining. I still dig the Professor, but then I think smart guys are hot.

I think they need another scandal like one of the girls having an affair with an ex-president /sarcasm.

I had a college friend who actually was Miss America. After winning, we saw her on a national tv commercial and on the cover of the national enquirer with a celebrity who was 40 years older than her. Then that was it... we never saw her or heard from her again.

One of my college classmates was in the Miss USA Pageant. She didn't win, but I was proud of her nonetheless.

I know a group of women that watch it wearing tiaras, feather boas while shooting the screen regularly with dart guns.

They also eat lots of chocolate and drink margaritas. Shooters are done anytime a contestant--
a. Is a pre-med student.
b. Wants to help children.
c. Has a 4.0 GPR

Double shots if she wants World Peace.

There should be a "Miss Free Republic" pageant. I would have no choice but to volunteer my services as a judge. I would promise to do all the legwork and stay abreast of the developments.

"Miss Free Republic" That could work. But I think we should stick with the regular questions they ask contestants. The answers might be slightly different:

JUDGE: Miss Free Republic Virginia, what should we do to aid the cause of social justice?

MISS FREE REPUBLIC VIRGINIA (smiling): Social justice has always been a big concern of mine. Right now, they only put two prisoners in a cell, which may be justice, but is not social enough. I think we need at least six prisoners to a cell. It's very social and saves a great deal on prison costs.
