"Gee, I wish that picture of nothing were a bit clearer..."
If you turn up the infrared and UV controls on one of the new RGB-IR-UV monitors, you may be able to see it. I need to get one of those monitors for myself. Does anyone know if Best Buy carries them yet?
"Before scientists understood how light worked, they came up with a mysterious substance called "ether" to explain it."
Yes. There are a lot of things we didn't used to be able to detect that are easily detected today. X-rays, neutrons, ultraviolet, etc. All you need is the right sensor.
Also, there are a number of things we used to think existed that we now know don't exist. Ether as you say (not the kind that knocks you out), caloric, phlogiston, etc.
Another thing like dark matter is "gravitons", particles supposedly held responsible for gravitational attraction by some physicists. The only problem is we can't find them, either. Hey, maybe they are related.
So, we either need a dark matter sensor or a better explanation than dark matter. The "truth" will eventually come out unless it one of the 'unknowable' basic principles of the universe.
Ahh, yeah.... I see it.
"Is this plank long enough?"
OSHA, I am glad you are wearing safety orange on the job but your headgear in positioned incorrectly. I am going to report you to OSHA. Wait, I just did that!
In any other field of science, this would tend to indicate that the theory is wrong.
Well, a theory is a theory. I can't balme them for trying to get a scietific paper printed to feed their egos.....(sarc)
If I cant see it, touch/feel it, or smell it, it doesnt exist.
Forgot to spell ckeck that last........
Yup! Gravity waves...etc.
Some sort of mechanism that is the basis for gravitational effects that we do see.
I believe they have proved that objects traveling in space often gain velocity for no apparent reason, and often slow as well.
Therefore some believe there is a repulsion as well as attraction.
Attractors????? chaos theory???
Interesting stuff, but I think is we knew what it really was, we could easily duplicate it and the universe would be like going on vacation.
I have often thought that the answer lies in front of our noses.

No, see my post #63. They existence of neutrons was proposed but they couldn't detect them. Eventually, someone figured out how to detect them. See http://onsager.bd.psu.edu/~jircitano/neutron.html
They were the "dark matter" of the day back in the 30s. Just because you can't NOW see or detect something doesn't mean you will NEVER be able to detect it.

That kind of limits a person. Of course my opinion doesn't matter since I don't exist.
"Have they considered a Black Hole which has already consumed all that was within it's gravitational pull?"
No, it's probably not that. They know where Hillary is at all times. ;)

That's what they said about Einstein before he won the Nobel Prize in 1905.
Actually, they are first trying to feed their families. Ego comes after that and it's why a lot of people, including me, do things. Such as post stuff on FR. ;-)
BTTT
LOL!!! I also forgot the word hear. If everything fails and I also cant hear it, I take my toys and go home.
LOL !

Actually, I think Hillary is a different kind of HOLE.
Maybe this object is a protogalaxy or an eddy in the backwaters of the Virgo group of galaxies -- or both.
Einstein won the Nobel in 1921 for his 1905 work on the photoelectric effect.
