Good.

Which, in Specter-ese means: the Dimowits will whine. So what's new?

Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way! (Preferably the latter.)

When the pubbies start disciplining men like Specter, I will begin to believe they are worthy of trust. Until then, they are second best.

"Specter said he does not know whether the Republican leadership has 51 guaranteed votes to pass the necessary rules change that would exempt judicial nominations from filibusters, and he hopes he never finds out."

This total garbage being spewed by Spector.

There never has been a 'rule' requiring a 'supermajority' to allow an up or down vote on judical nominees.

This is something that the democrats started when they decided that the Presidents nominees would never make it out of committee.

Twisting the Constitution to fit their agenda is what they do.

"If we have the nuclear option, the Senate will be in turmoil and the Judiciary Committee will be hell,"

He's the chair, which is what he wanted.

Life lesson: "Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it."

what is likely to happen if the senate does not prevent the filibuster? Obviously there will be a filibuster, which means conservative judges will not be appointed who oppose abortion and gay marriage , who oppose giving illegal aliens right heretofore enjoyed only by citizens.

Now that's turmoil for the entire country for years and years to come.

Let's face it Spector is a closet democrat.

And the down side of this is?

Sometimes standing up for one's beliefs requires getting a little messy. Just do it!

You never know, this could be part of a good cop/bad cop strategy. But, if Specter is seriously opposing the nuclear option, I would remind ole Arlen that his balls are in the hands of the Senate leadership. He almost did not get that chairmanship and can be removed. Lets start putting the pressure on now. Anyone have Senator Frist's number?

"If we have the nuclear option, the Senate will be in turmoil and the Judiciary Committee will be hell,"

If Specter wasn't such a dumbass RINO he'd see that the Senate is already in turmoil due to the "rats unconstitutional actions regarding their responsiblity to advise and consent to the President's judicial nominees. Someone needs to tell this moron that he's sworn to uphold the US Constitution, not Scotland's.

No, Senator Specter, the so-called "nuclear option" would erase all of the power you now hold and that is exactly what you fear most.

"Specter said he does not know whether the Republican leadership has 51 guaranteed votes to pass the necessary rules change..."

I think what Specter just said is, "If it comes to it, don't count on my vote."

"If we have the nuclear option, the Senate will be in turmoil and the Judiciary Committee will be hell," Specter (R-Pa.) told reporters at a Capitol Hill press conference.

We tried really hard to keep this guy out of the committee chair!

We knew he was a wuss!

He kept his illness hidden until after the election.

Too bad Penn governor is a Democrat.

We will have to clench our jaws and wait 2 years to get a Republican governor who can replace Specs.

well, i hate to remind everyone of this (and I am sure I'll get flamed for it), but when we were the minority, we also used the filibuster. and democrats tried to stop us then as we're doing now. eventually, after their slimy ways became evident, the tides started turning, and we got the majority in the house.

so, while i think its terrible that these judges can't be voted on, it would be far worse for America and for the republican to start changing every rule that doesn't suit us. The elder republican senators know this, and a number of them oppose this rules change, which is why there probably aren't even enough votes.

and besides (maybe I'm missing something), but couldn't the democrats just filibuster a rules change anyway?
