McCain Touts Jeb for 2008
NewsMax ^ | 2/28/05 | AP

Posted on 02/28/2005 5:12:21 PM PST by wagglebee

The first name that popped out of U.S. Sen. John McCain's mouth Sunday as the Republican choice for president in 2008 was Jeb Bush, but the governor's spokesman repeated his position that he has no plans to run.

"If you're looking at dynasties, and by the way I'm a great admirer of Governor Bush, he's done a great job in Florida," the Arizona senator said on "Fox News Sunday." But he added, "This might be a wide-open situation."

In response to McCain's remarks, Bush spokesman Jacob DiPietre said: "The governor is focused on his job right now. He's got an ambitious agenda for his remaining time in office and has said repeatedly that he has no intentions of running" for president in 2008.

But if Jeb will take his troopers down and rescue Terri Schindler Schiavo, I'll support him, dynasty or no...

He has done everything he can for Schiavo.

Tommy Franks might work for me. Condi I think is stronger than people think, but she does have some weak points.

Jebs not running nor should he. I don't think the public would take to 3 Bushs in in a 20 year span.

Maybe he'll try for the florida senate seat.

He supports giving driver's licenses to illegal aliens. He also believes in race based quotas/affirmative action.

Jeb would be too many Bushes, even though he seems qualified. Americans don't like royal dynasties. No more clintons and no more bushes and no more kennedy's. Next thing you know there'll be a Jack Ford vs. Amy Carter election. At least wait awhile. Maybe a bush twins ticket in a few decades.

I want to see Dan Quayle run. He is a committed conservative and a good man. The MSM image is old and can easily be overcome by hitting the ground running with his thorough, committed agenda.

He has done everything he can for Schiavo.

I don't know.

He and his lawyers need to read the portion of their own Constitution that is supposed to protect the lives of the innocent.

The Executive is a co-equal branch, as is the Legislative. Perhaps it is time for those two branches to exercise their power against an out-of control judiciary whose judges can't even read the simple words of the foundational documents of the rule of law that is supposed to protect us all.

Time for our elected leaders who call themselves pro-life to find some cajones.

This is where the rubber meets the road.

Time is of the essence.

How many armed officers does the Florida Supreme Court have?

I like and respect Dan Quayle, but there is absolutely no way he could ever even win the GOP nomination let alone be elected POTUS.

To me, that alone wouldn't qualify as RINO.

It bothers a lot of people that she hasn't been in congress, or a governor. I'm not sure how pandering to small groups of people will make her a better commander-in-chief though.

"The best...is [sic] General Tommy Franks and Senator John Cornyn of Texas."

Would I sound like an owl if I said "who" twice?

Aw, you gotta admit this is odd and yet typically political enough to be mildly amusing!

With bloggers, FR, and FNC, Quayle has a a chance of getting a fair shake. I am convinced the issue is not the some imagined past image. The issue is hitting the ground running with a viable agenda. And that he has.

With no strong Republican candidate yet emerging, we need a "four more years" kind of pass the torch election like Bush 41 got. He was viewed as four more years of Reagan and won. President Bush could pick a successor, move him/her into a cabinet position, and make it clear the s/he is the chosen successor.

If the economy keeps growing, shrinking the deficit, and the Middle East keeps moving forward, it could work. Look at how Bloomberg became mayor. Republicans viewed him as a RINO, Democrats viewed him as a Republican. He won simply because he was Rudy's pick.

Damaged goods. He was the last scalp the MSM will ever have, if that's any consolation.

This is very similar to the whispering campaign that brought W to front runner status.

George Bush won the nomination becasue he was the best man; and you should thank your lucky stars he did; there wasn't another man in the running that could have handled the job he's had to do.
