The Senate is the watchdog because majorities can be wrong, and filibusters can highlight injustices, and history is full of examples.

Elections don't matter. We liberals know what is best.

Hatch talked about the history of the filibuster and how it was used for legislative issues, not appointments, if I recall correctly. It was an interesting day on the floor. Byrd ought to be put out to pasture after this performance.
