"Fusing a human and chimpanzee embryo - which researchers say is feasible - could produce a creature so human that questions regarding its moral and legal status would throw 4,000 years of ethics into chaos. Would such a creature enjoy human rights? Would it have to pass some kind of "humanness" test to win its freedom? Would it be forced into doing menial labour or be used to perform dangerous activities"
A chimp has 4 times the strength of a man per unit of body mass. Imagine a creature who was part human and part chimp with the size of a man.

Pigs (or other critters) with effectively human organs would make marvelous hervestable sources of blood, organs, tissues, etc.(Well, well, OBB...we meet again!)
Why not just clone everyone at birth? We can keep the clone in a controlled, perfect-nutrient environment (ever see the movie "The Matrix"?) and as we age or are injured, we can harvest replacement parts and tissue from our identical clone! We can start right now using identical twins.

...OT laws are just plain silly and evil. Wow, it takes a particularly arrogant flavor of chutzpah to declare that laws given by God are "silly and evil."
Those laws were given for a particular people in a particular time. Their culture didn't have any Constitution, Bill of Rights or judicial system with trial by a jury of peers. To judge their law from your perspective of comparative pampered ignorance is the very definition of foolishness.
Do yourself a favor and stay far away from Biblical critiques.

If, when I set up a mousetrap or place a poisoned bait, I see a mouse passing by and giving me a finger - I'd swear off drinking for at least a year.

Stoning people to death for not following objectively silly laws would *not* make the world better. This was a punishment for rape.
Now, about your daughter..................

"Weissman is considering a follow-up that would produce mice whose brains are 100% human" Great. Mice demanding welfare. Just great.
To: TChris
Then don;t support the idea that these laws should be applied in the here-and-now.
Of course, there's also the little fact that the OT *and* Jesus declared that those laws would apply forever, so using the "particular people in a particular time" arguement doesn't work either.
