Jeb's reluctance is really unexplainable. Were I the FL governor, I would have used the DCF long, long ago in this case, and we wouldn't be where we are today. I think he fears there would be an Attica Prison style shootout if he intervened and that Terri would be killed in the crossfire. What other explanation is there? Surely not fear of impeachment? Fear of the Scientologists? What?

Perhaps Governor Gilmore's experience has made Jeb afraid and perhaps he is letting others take the reigns this time to show that it is not just Jeb who cares.

It is probably that well-documented Republican affliction, the lack of the courage of his convictions. They have a similar problem on the Democrat side, if you can believe the politicians who say "I am personally opposed to abortion but cannot impose my beliefs on others, or use my political position to advance my own personal beliefs. I must obey the law."
