The bottom line though is that even if the premises in the poll questions were true, Congress under the Constitution still would have the power to enact the legislation that was signed by Bushius Maximus last night.

what would you want?

I sure wouldn't want to be starved to death, that's for sure. Would you want to be starved to death? Is that desire codified in a proviso of your living will? The notion that Terri Schiavo "expressed her desire" to be starved to death is absurd on its face, along with the belated, self-contradictory assertions of M.S. and a state judge who directly ordered that she be starved to death.

Since when does a state judge have the authority to order that a citizen of the United States be starved to death?

Cordially,

No amount of wishing, hoping, praying, protesting, accusations of abuse, or grandstanding judges and politicians will change that.

You vastly underestimate the power of God.

Last I heard, we don't conduct referenda to determine who should live and who should die. They used to have these displays in the Roman amphitheaters where the crowds used to show which way their thumbs went in deciding whether someone should be fed to the lions. I'd like to think we're more civilized than the bloodthirsty pagans of ancient Rome.

This poll is the Culture of Death on display for all. Disgusting. But not terribly surprising.

The frightening part is the overwhelming majority are part of the Culture of Death which means it includes our friends, neighbors, acquaintances and family! Be afraid, be very afraid!!!

Well, there you have it. If this poll is anywhere near accurate, we are now officially a nation of moral cretins. Heaven help us, though we don't deserve it.

Excellent point! About half the colonists were no good bootlicking, arse-kissing Loyalists. A third were revolutionary Patriots and the remaining third were half assed fence-sitters. In a word, today's moderates. Thank heaven we didn't listen to the two thirds opposed to American independence back then.

Gotta disagree with you there. This is actually VERY good for Republicans. For one, its the right thing to do. The rights to life is a core value for the GOP.

Secondly, there is a reason why very little opposition has come from the democrats - and that is because this is a losing issue for them. Someone realized in the senatet that its not good to clamor over one another in order to be the first one to kill a handicapped person.

We've been sitting there and taking it. And the Left has portrayed us as a bunch of intolerant nutcases. Its done its damage. Standing up for what's right isn't always the popular thing to do. I don't owe any one an apology for the values that guide me.

Terri Schiavo has had no MRI or PET scan. Only a CT scan has led some neurologists to conclude that her cerebral cortex has liquefied; other neurologists dispute the possibility of reliably making that inference from CT scans. Many of the initial determinations of fact under Judge Greer relied on the testimony of Dr. Ronald Cranford. He is certainly a medical expert; but he is also a right-to-die zealot who advocates the removal of feeding tubes for patients with Alzheimer's dementia.

This is from the National Review online today. All the facts are not in regarding Terri.

Of course it doesn't. Congress doesn't have the authority to create an expensive new entitlement program. It does have the power to protect our God-given rights. What's funny is the very people who object to protecting those rights are the same people who demand to be wards of the state.

I'd like to think we're more civilized than the bloodthirsty pagans of ancient Rome.

I'd like to think that, too, but sometimes I wonder. It's hard to imagine that even Rome amidst the worst of its bloodthirsty revelry and debauchery would have imagined killing a newborn by sucking it's brains out while in the process of delivery, or burning the skin off of unborn children with injected concentrated saline solutions. Yet it happens in this country all the time.

We're seeing in the Schiavo case the logical endpoint of the culture of death. Killing innocents persons has become acceptable and sanctioned by society, with certain caveats (which themselves are being eroded away). Things like the court accepting the hearsay of another individual with obvious conflicts of interest, taking polls to gauge public approval of the killing, etc., all lend an aura of acceptability. Of course, the preference is that the killing be shielded by the masquerade of "privacy", done out of sight and out of mind, hidden away somewhere in a chamber of horrors abortion mill, or a hospice room to which visitation of family and friends is denied.

"even thought there's NO written, or video taped wish on Teri's part, so LET'S JUST ERR ON THE SIDE OF DEATH."

I'm in agreement with you on this particular point, and I think it is the only point that should be considered. I have to admit that I am very ignorant to the facts of this case, so my opinion is worth very little.

I do have a question for all of you more knowledgeable freepers. What makes this tragic situation open for Federal involvement? While I personally think that the Florida Judges are not erring on the side of life, per the reason above, does the Fla. Legislators and Gov. have no recourse? What legal precedent is being set?

The Romans exposed unwanted infants to die of exposure and crucified their enemies. It took the conversion of the Empire to Christianity to abolish both barbaric practices. We're now living in what is essentially a post-Christian civilization. We've accepted abortion and we're well on the way to accepting euthanasia. And we live with these horrors because we never see the victims. How long did Rome last? America too is on the precipice of heading down the slippery slope to moral oblivion.

"I bet the questions did not mention that:"

And for good reason. The first is totally irrelevant, and the other two are lies.

I err on the side of life. Well, if we can't stop Terri from being murdered, its simply a matter of time before the moral disintegration of our society is realized. When no one is safe, don't be surprised if we all end up living in a "Clockwork Orange" world.

"The media talks as if Terry said she wanted to the die and the GOP is stopping it."

That is exactly what's happening.

"I'm willing to bet 95% of the poeple polled here believe Terri is unconscious and in a coma."

That's the impression I had untul I saw some video over the weekend, which showed her seemingly conscious and responding to people; is that her normal state?
