Neurologists see little sign of activity in Schiavo's brain

BY BOB LAMENDOLA

South Florida Sun-Sentinel

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - (KRT) - Scans of Terri Schiavo's brain show that the great majority of her gray matter where thinking and feeling occur has died off and been replaced by watery fluid, with no chance of growing back, neurologists said.

About 70 to 90 percent of Schiavo's upper brain is gone, and there's also damage to her lower brain that controls instinctive functions like breathing and swallowing, said three Florida neurologists who viewed 12 of her CT "computed tomography" X-ray scans Tuesday and Wednesday.

"This is as severe brain damage as I've ever seen," said Dr. Leon Prockop, a professor and former chairman of neurology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa, upon viewing the scans.

But her behavior which caused him to question the PVS diagnosis was on the video tapes, not a real-time observance

How many hours of film did the parents shoot to get a few minutes where Terri appears to almost do things not of a random nature?

You are right, and to want her ordeal to end is Christian if
you believe in heaven.

There's a time to live and a time to die
A time to mourn and a time to be comforted etc.

23rd Psalms says

"Yea tho I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I will fear no evil for thou art with me"

I believe he is with her. He told us

"I go to prepare a place for you that where I am there ye may be also.."

He has a place for her.

Let her go to him and her new home! She is probably growing weaker and I'm sure she feels no pain. They probably have given her something to make sure she isn't in pain. Wanting fifteen more years of her lying in a bed like that is what is sinful.

There "IS" life after death.

So do we force G-d's hand by starving her?

On the basis of this, we could euthanize both the House and the Senate.

We interfered with God's hand by artificially keeping her fed, no?

We're sorry you can't compose a grammatical sentence.

It would have never come on the radar. We're glad it did come on the radar because now people are forced to take a look at the question of just how certain the state has to be that you want to die, before it MAKES you die. I say that it ought to be more certain than hearsay remembered several years later by the hearsayer and his close relatives, that had been contradicted in comments made earlier by the hearsayer. Terri has the whole apparatus of the state around her, forcing her to die. If that doesn't scare you, what will?

Because families and doctors won't agree. If Michael bowed out to the Schindlers' wishes, sure there would have been a more harmonious ending to this. But do you think an absence of a law would have made that any more likely?

Bull yourself dear. The swallow test is more sophisticated than you may be aware. It can indicate the likelihood that one can be taught to swallow and can indicate what substances one can driink or eat. And it can recommend what is the best way to try to eat.

For instance, thickened liquids can help in swallowing. Some can't drink water but can drink something thick like thickened water or a malt for instance. And crumbs can be a problem so mushy cereal is better than corn flakes.

But the issue is, the test can point the way to regular eating and how it may be accomplished. Not a small thing.

It is not "slamming" as you so melodramatically and wrongly put it if she chews or swallows from a spoon brought to her lips.

And you are wrong that it cannot be a first part of rehab. Terri has literally not tasted food in years. Sensory deprivation is deleterious to the normal, how much more so the disabled.

That's nothing - most of my teachers, and even my mom, have said there is little sign of activity in my brain, and I even passed the NY Bar exam!!! ;-)

What is that old saying that he who has to reach for the Nazi analogy has lost the argument?

For you to claim that you won our argument, you must be suffering from advanced dementia. I'd suggest you withdraw food and water forthwith.

An MRI cannot be done on Terri because of the implant in her brain. I suppose you think she should have brain surgery to remove it so folks can do an MRI.

The lack of concern for factual accuracy on these threads is stunning.

I am well aware of the implants in Terri's brain. So are the doctors who have advised the implants be removed, which is a very easy procedure, to have an MRI. She doesn't need the implants.

An "easy" procedure that requires opening her skull.

"The neurologist who says she's not in a PVS examined her within the last couple of weeks."

Yes, Dr. Cheshire did visit Terri recently. But her behavior which caused him to question the PVS diagnosis was on the video tapes, not a real-time observance. He states in the affidavit:

"Although Terri did not demonstrate during our 90 minute visit compelling evidence of verbalization, conscious awareness, or volitional behavior ..."

"Could MS be using the malpractice proceeds to fund a web of medical deception through bribery?"

While he says those 'proceeds' were spent on litigation; I believe he spent them himself. I do think MS must be getting funding somehow and from some 'Leftist Lobbies'. . .

Don't have the facts; but do have 'my opinion'. . .

What was the name of that Leftist 'name laundering' Lobby that Theresa Heinz Kerry supports? . . .cannot think of the name of it. . .(rats. . .???!); but would bet they have some money hands out for M.S.
