Ralph Nader, Author Wesley Smith...Take any Legal Action Available to let Schiavo Live
http://releases.usnewswire.com ^ | 3/24/2005 | Ralph Nader, Wesley Smith

Consumer Advocate Ralph Nader and Wesley J. Smith, author of the award winning book "Culture of Death: The Assault on Medical Ethics in America" call upon the Florida Courts, Governor Jeb Bush and concerned citizens to take any legal action available to let Terri Schiavo live.

"A profound injustice is being inflicted on Terri Schiavo," Nader and Smith asserted today. "Worse, this slow death by dehydration is being imposed upon her under the color of law, in proceedings in which every benefit of the doubt-and there are many doubts in this case-has been given to her death, rather than her continued life."

Among the many injustices in this case, Nader and Smith point to the following:

The courts not only are refusing her tube feeding, but have ordered that no attempts be made to provide her water or food by mouth. Terri swallows her own saliva. Spoon feeding is not medical treatment. "This outrageous order proves that the courts are not merely permitting medical treatment to be withheld, it has ordered her to be made dead," Nader and Smith assert.

The medical and rehabilitation experts are split on whether Terri is in a persistent vegetative state or whether Terri can be improved with therapy. There is only one way to know for sure- permit the therapy. That is the only way to resolve all doubts.

The court is imposing process over justice. After the first trial in this case, much evidence has been produced that should allow for a new trial-which was the point of the hasty federal legislation. If this were a death penalty case, this evidence would demand reconsideration. Yet, an innocent disabled woman is receiving less justice.

The federal and state governments are spending billions on what we are told will become miracle medical cures for people with all sorts of degenerative conditions, including brain damage. If this is so, why not permit Terri's parents and siblings who want to care for her do so in the hope that such cures are discovered?

Benefits of doubts should be given to life, not hastened death. This case is rife with doubt. Justice demands that Terri be permitted to live.

I disagree with Ralph on many issues, but at least he has compassion and humanity.

"Where are the Hollywood types on this issue? "

Where are all the anti-death-penalty folks, who hold vigil at every execution of a vicious convicted criminal?!?

The radical Democratic left is an army of the living dead. They live with a mindset of death, and try to impose it on we the living. Witness who led the charge, a radical homosexual Barney Frank. A radical abortion Mafiosa, Barbara Boxer. What is difficult for we the living to comprehend is the reason they can engage in such anti-life abominations is because they have no souls.

They have said that the tears of Terri Schiavo are mechanical. They have said that her smile is reflexive. They can rip an emerging child from the womb, murder it, and call this a compassionate act. Like Mengele – the doctor of death from the Nazi concentration camps - the radical, soulless Democrats keep referring to “the doctors,” as if a medical degree guaranteed humanity. Therefore, choose life. God bless George W. Bush.

I think Nader is a liberal in the best sense of that word, inasmuch as he really does care about the rights of the "little guy," the weak or vulnerable who cannot defend themselves, such as Terri right now. He may hold false beleifs to the effect that capitalism or the military-indutrial complex etc. is the primary enemy of the little guy, but neverthless his conviction is sincere. Thus, when he sees the government unjustly murder an innocent, that does offent his moral sense.

Neverthless, he shows no courage and gets no kodos from me for a dinky-ass press release hours before Terri's murder is complete.

No kidding.

I think this case has brought out certain folks' true colors.

I can disagree with people like Nader all day long on socialism, but basic morality is a much more important issue.

After Terri's death, all sorts of people will pop up - never heard from before - wringing their hands over the injustice.

Even that's better than nothing. This has got to be more than a save-Terri campaign. It has got to be a rein-in-the-judges campaign.

I'm not a fan of Barney Frank, but I don't get your connection between his homosexuality and death. If you waived a wand and made him strait, he'd still run to the next camaera and advocate Terri's murder. Agree with the rest of what you've said.

How about we praise Nader, if we agree with him?

We would praise a Muslim for condemning 9/11, wouldn't we?

The point is he's immersed in the culture of death and is one of the leaders in trying to get the rest of the country to accept his agenda.

I am thankful that liberals and libertarians are speaking out in support of letting Terri live. We pray God would open peoples eyes to the atrocity happening to this woman. When it happens I thank God that possibly Ralph Nader can speak to his followers and put the truth to them. Because many liberals will not accept anything we say. I say praise God and thank you Ralph Nader for opening your eyes and heart.

Subject: This state-sponsored MURDER of Terri Schaivo must be STOPPED

From: My real name and address

Date: Thu, March 24, 2005 11:59 pm

To: president@whitehouse.gov

Dear Mr. President:

I implore you to do what may be seemingly beyond what has heretofore been regarded as part of your presidential powers:

Please use your executive power to stop the state-sponsored MURDER of Terri Schaivo.

Millions of Americans cannot bear that our country has become a place where the state is killing its own innocent citizens.

If I were you, I would take the risk: go in with a SWAT team and take Terri to a safe hospital.

Regardless of what the courts say -- you and I know that it is wrong to deny her even a sip of water -- which, if she can swallow her own saliva (some reports are 2 liters a day), she can certainly handle.

You have the moral duty to make sure that either they attempt to feed Terri Schaivo, or they reinsert the feeding tube.

Denying her water and food is unconscionable, and it is on THIS ACCOUNT that I think you will be supported by the American people who recognize that depriving a human being of food and water is evil.

They won't even give her a sip of water, Mr. President!!!

I beg you -- you took a chance on Iraq and you were right. Please do it again.

Best regards,

Yeah, and only 100,000 innocent Iraqis had to die too.

I didn't see any of you up in arms about that. In fact, weren't conservatives the ones beating the war drums loudest?

Shock & Awe

Hi.

Bye.
