I've seen this progression before. What is the time difference between the first and last frames?

Moral Absolutes Ping.

So much for the liberal-tarian "victimless crime" mouthwash.

Interesting article - what a good man to put this together, and note the councilwoman who is developing a treatment center WITHOUT TAX DOLLARS****.

Wouldn't it be great if religious organizations did something like this? (Maybe they do, I'm not the most informed person in the world.)

Let me know if you want (back)on/off this pinglist.

If drug dealers were executed the drug problem would dimish very soon.

China has risen and fallen purely because of opium. When the government gets harsh on it, things improve.

thanks for sharing that.

In Florida there is a law that very strictly can involuntarily confine someone for a 48 period for serious drug abuse or mental illness. The circumstances around this are very stringent, involving a court order and multiple witnesses, and if proffesionals perform assessments I believe they can hold the person involuntarily for even longer.

Just an idea, but perhaps something similar (and carefully, carefully, constructed) could be set up that allowed someone to be involuntarily confined to a facility upon the request of multiple witnesses attesting that the addiction was destroying the person, drug testing indicating the drug was present, with perhaps additional evidence indicating stealing or abandoning children etc... presented to be weighed by a judge who can issue a court order for involuntary treatment.

In this way a person could still get the help they need, without the govenment infringing on the right of a FREE individual to try a certain drug or partake in it responsibly and, most importantly, without the government inleashing a wave of terror and violence on the poorest in society by criminalizing a multibillion dollar industry. (The drug trade operates in the poorest, most stricken, often minority, neighboorhoods because the government sets up the equivalent of tax breaks in these neighboorhoods. For more see this link http://www.neoperspectives.com/sweatshopsandwelfare.htm)

Anyway, just an idea... cuz you raise a valid objection to the libertarian view that needs to be answered.

Link didn't go through and it is too long anyway. This is the main point:
http://www.neoperspectives.com/sweatshopsandwelfare.htm

Our inner cities (and Indian reservations) didn't experience this prosperity because private sector wages couldn't match what the government was paying people not to work. On top of this the government never considered itself an employer of these millions people, so it paid no local taxes. But the worst part was that the government's ever expanding public housing units concentrated welfare recipients and, since the government never considered itself a homeowner, it paid little or no property tax on it's these units, further devastating local treasuries and contributing to the crumbling local schools and infrastructure. High minimum wages worked to price the lowest income earners out of the labor market, thus benefiting Unions by eliminating their low wage competition. Private companies obviously avoided these areas like the plague, but some more sinister industries saw clear advantages in these areas. They saw an idle, restless, uneducated populace which, in order not to loose their cash, food, housing and medical benefits, could only engage in economic activity that was unreported to the government. Prostitution, gambling, drugs, gangs and other criminal enterprises were given the equivalent of a tax break to set up shop in these areas. Natural human ambition and the entrepreneurial spirit was not be stopped - even by the Federal government. It was merely molded into a more insidious force.

I would support the death penalty for cooks and dealers of meth.

1984-1985 I was the largest dealer of meth in my city.

I agree with you 100%.

I seriously advocate execution for hard drug pushers. They are subhuman scum.

Marijuana's a different story. IMO people should be allowed to grow their own, BUT NO SELLING. NONE. If people want to get seriously stupid, they should be allowed to. Marijuana is similar to alcohol. BTW, I also think that people should brew their own alcohol if they want to drink. I'm not partial - marijuana and alcohol should be viewed as equivalent.

I used to be a very heavy drinker and mj smoker, so I know whereof I speak. Have abstained for many years, no temptation to partake whatsoever.

It never ceases to astonish me the ignorance on these issues. We outlaw something that creates and underground economy and culture and then we wonder why drug users and gangsters are involved. The we say see, I told you we needed that law. Amazing!

I have seen pictures of legal prostitutes in Amsterdam, and they fare no better.

Agreed! This is similar to Liberals taking guns away and then wondering why the crime rate goes up.. MUST BE CUZ THE GUN CONTROL WASN'T STRICT ENOUGH. Or Liberals raising taxes on the producers and employers to help the poor and then wondering why the poverty rate goes up... MUST BE CUZ THERE AREN'T ENOUGH SERVICES AVAILABLE FOR THE POOR, LETS RAISE TAXES.

Government is nearly always the problem not the solution and some people don't get it.

I'd be okay with "creative" legalization. Like if you commit a crime on drugs, automatic life in jail.

But it would take 1 hour for the first case to arise, and the same crowd that begged for it would then say his sentence is too harsh.

The point, genius, is that prostitution is a degrading business that progressively destroys the lives of the women who take up the profession, whether or not it is legal.

To blame the plight of these hookers on the illegality of the job is misguided.
