A wild ride for an Alabama seven-year-old ended without injury. The boy -- who apparently wanted to play with friends -- drove off in his dad's big dual-wheel truck.
He was driving erratically along a stretch of road in the town of Enterprise, Ala. when other drivers called police saying they couldn't see anyone behind the wheel.
The young driver ended up in a ditch before police managed to coax him out of the vehicle. The boy rolled up the windows and locked the doors as police approached. He pressed the gas pedal and the truck sent mud and dirt flying -- but didn't move.
Officers coaxed him out by telling him they would take him to play with his friends; then they took him to the police station.
Police told the local newspaper, the Enterprise Ledger, the boy apparently got the keys while his father slept, and he was trying to drive to a day care center.

Dang. Next thing you know that boy is gonna be driving for Roush or Evernham. Probably some Nascar talent scouts having a look at him right now!
Who wants to bet that daddy taught him how to "drive"?
I doubt the child would have attempted this if dad hadn't put the child in his lap for a few test drives.
It's great that fathers spend time with their children and teach them how to do things in the world, but how about a little responsibility and common sense: the right things in the right time.
The other aspect of this is lack of discipline. I never would have attempted such a stunt as a child because I knew I was not allowed to do such things, even at that young age. Children learn this very early on if they are firmly guided (and spanked) as they grow up.
Fortunately, for all involved, no one was injured. But things could have turned out far worse.
I was driving a tractor on the farm at his age. My Uncle used to put me in his pickup to "run errands" on the farm. I don't recall doing any more damage than cleaning out a few ditches and getting stuck occasionally. Sadly, it's almost impossible to do those things anymore.
I often see cars drive by with no apparent driver. But if you look closely you can see 8 whithered up old knuckles gripping the steering wheel.
Check out this "movie". It's hilarious and there's a little old lady driver in it that cracks me up.

At least tasers weren't involved. I daresay I hope a 2" wide patent leather belt is, though. Studs are fine, too.
I am sure we will be hearing more of him in about 15 years: "Hold mu beer and watch this..."
